[edit] Personality
Cold, distant, stoic, abrasive, and possessed with a thirst for power that some might consider verging on the obsessive, Vergil is the polar opposite of his brother, Dante.
[edit] Powers and Abilities
Vergil's powers and abilities are entirely identical to his twin brother's, though Vergil uses his powers alongside the powerful rage he holds behind his cool exterior, only enjoying a fight if it is against what he considers a "worthy" foe.
[edit] History
In fact, a signifigant portion of Vergil's personality issues stem directly from his childhood, his father being the Legendary Dark Knight Sparda and his mother being a mortal woman named Eva. After their father died, Dante and Vergil were both raised by their mother, until one day when the two were still children, she was killed by a group of demons. Dante left with the sword and amulet his father had left him, and left his brother behind him, forcing Vergil to fend for himself. Vergil grew emotionally distant as a result of being so untimely ripped from everything he knew or cared about, and did his very best to vanish, seeking answers to questions he held silent. Vergil and Dante crossed paths a number of times in the early years, however the two remained for the most part unaware of each other. However, this was to all come to an end when Vergil met the being by the name of Arkham, who informed Vergil of the location of one of the four seals that held the hell-gate his father had locked before his birth. The only problem was that to open the final seal, Vergil would require his brother's half of the amulet their mother had passed down to Dante and himself from their father. However, having detached himself from his brother and indeed most other beings for most of his life, Vergil saw this merely as another bump in the long road to power that was to come.
Eventually, Arkham is sent to "invite" Vergil's brother to the unlocking of the seals in the Temen-ni-gru, knowing that Dante's half of the amulet will be required in order to reconnect the demon and human worlds. Vergil and Dante clash repeatedly throughout the breaking of the seals, their conflict ultimately culminating in an alliance as soon as Arkham reveals his full manipulative intentions. This alliance between the brothers Sparda is short lived however, ending the very moment Mundus is eliminating, Vergil and Dante facing each other one last time at the final gate to the demon realm. It was here that Vergil almost met his end, being defeated by his brother. However, as if by some manner of remaining brotherly concern for his brother, or perhaps something else entirely, Vergil urges his brother out and away from the gate as it seals.
Vergil's last moments before slipping into the s1verse were of him charging against Mundus in the demon realm.
