At first seemingly tough and scary, Tatsuki is a very loyal and caring friend to those she lets in past her guard. She is very protective, especially to her best girl-friend, Orihime. The only feminine thing about her is that she writes her first name in hiragana instead of kanji, because it 'looks cuter'. A tomboy from the first, it's easy to classify her and peg her as simply that, but in the later manga chapters, it's easy to see she is much deeper than that, in her concern for Ichigo and frustration at being able to do nothing. She doesn't put up with idiots and uses her fists too often, but is kind to those who need it.

Tatsuki is not a shinigami or quincy but she does have the ability to see spirits and sense reiatsu, thanks to her close friendship with Ichigo Kurosaki. She is a 2nd degree black belt and won a competition the previous summer that declared her the 2nd strongest girl in Japan, only not winning because she had a broken arm already and the opponent was a "gorilla".

Tatsuki Arisawa is a sixteen year old school mate of the protagonist in the manga and anime series Bleach. She is also a childhood friend, having known him since they were both four years old when he came to her father's dojo to study karate, where she proceeded to make him cry and run for his mother. They became fast friend's anyway, Tatsuki being the only girl admitting to his room and world before Rukia Kuchiki. Always the tough tomboy, she doesn't dream of pretty dresses or make-up, but being a vale tudo champion. After Ichigo's mother died, she changed from trying to toughen him up to being his partner in crime, beating up bullies, until high school where she became friends with one Inoue Orihime.
She had met Orihime in Middle school but not gotten to know her well until she beat up the bullies that cut Orihime's hair and the girls became fast friends, even though they seemed total opposites. Tatsuki protects Orihime from the school lesbian, and over-zealous boys who wish to grope and feel their way to the innocent girl's heart. Most are frightened to death of her, a classmate, Keigo Asano once said he "wouldn't take her on with a bazooka".
Like many of Ichigo's friends, Tatsuki is spiritually aware to the point that she can clearly see ghosts, hollows, shinigami, and other supernatural phenomena. She is also strong enough to survive spiritual attacks most humans are incapable of dealing with, though this may be attributable to her karate training. Despite acquiring the ability to see and sense spiritual entities around the same time as Orihime, she has not exhibited any unique spiritual abilities as of yet.
It is when the arrancar come that Tatsuki's spiritual awareness comes to real fruition as she is able to clearly see Ichigo in his shinigami dress and sees the battle between he and Grimmjow Jeagerjaques on the street. Before this, she had suffered having some of her soul sucked out by Yammy, another arrancar and was the only human there to survive besides the ones with powers.
When Orihime is taken to Hueco Mundo with Ulquiorra, another arrancar, Tatsuki confronts Ichigo in the school hallway and becomes angry and violent with him, demanding him to explain what has happened to Orihime. She further explains she has known what is going on and has seen his shinigami dress and battles and demands explanations. Ichigo refuses and she attacks him, only to be restrained by Keigo and Mizuro. Ichigo coldly tells his friends to not get involved and walks away. Leaving them there, only they follow him to Kisuke Urahara's shop and see him, Chad and Ishida step into the portal to Hueco Mundo and Urahara cryptically states that now HIS part is starting....
She is entering the role-play shortly after leaving the Urahara Shouten after watching Ichigo, Chad and Ishida step into the Portal, being yanked out of her world on her way into her house.
