Mai is a nice, sweet girl who is pretty much average until she finds out she has latent psychic powers and pre-cog abilities. She's fiercely loyal to the friends she makes, is really very friendly and relies heavily on first impressions. She's basically your average teenage school girl.
[edit] Powers and Abilities
Mai can visit other places in her dreams, like an out-of-body experience, where she has 'visions' of things yet to happen, but not by a long period of time. Usually if this happens, it's -right- about to take place, or soon after she wakes up. Her powers are still rather underdeveloped. Mai also has very good intuition, much like that of an animal, and relies heavily on first impressions. She can also pass items from one person or place to another via her out of body experience (in one episode she traveled out of her body to Masako, a girl medium she works with who was trapped in a room and gave Masako her house key, telling her that when she comes to save her she will get it back, as proof that they'll be able to save her). Though without "Dream-Naru" (can't say much here, would be spoilerish) who visits her in her visions, she might not be able to retain this ability as he acts as a guide for her.

At the moment not much is known about Mai except that she lives by herself currently. Her mother died when she was in junior high and she lived (according to the manga, which sadly I haven't read nor can get my hands on) with various teachers for a while until she could support herself. In the anime, they say that she lived with only one teacher. Her current living status is unknown. Though it might be assumed she lives in an apartment of some sort and lives on scholarships and whatever she makes from working at SPR.
