[edit] Personality

Sasuke conducts himself with a certain quiet grace, at most times. However, that mask of elegance is nearly opposite from the boy's true nature – he is a prickly, angry child with an inferiority complex that swallows up any confidence that he would have otherwise had in his abilities. He does not make friends easily, nor does he care to. He is focused on one goal and one goal alone – to grow strong enough to defeat his older brother. Sasuke pushes people away that get to close, he is frightened of companionship, after he watched his family cut down before his eyes.

Deep down, there is a desire merely to be accepted, but he buried all of these human, weak tendencies when he declared himself an avenger. He tries to hate everything, because he thinks that hatred is safe. When he hates someone, they can't hurt him in return. Sasuke expects nothing from the world, and has grown to be cold, bitter and angry. He does wear a thin veneer of arrogance everywhere he goes, and for the most part, people take it at face value. In truth, however, Sasuke has no belief in himself. His life is meant to kill Itachi, after that, he knows it will be forfeit.

Sasuke is called many things, but the proper term for his steadfast determination would be "obsessed". Ready to sell his soul to the devil at the drop of a hat for the chance at more power, Sasuke has no qualms about sacrificing his morals in the pursuit of the death of his brother. “Focused” and “driven” are the polite ways to describe him, but the truth of the matter is that he is on fixated on revenge. Nothing surpasses vengeance, and though he has spared others in his past, things aren’t as gray as they were; black and white are the colors of his world now. Bonds are meant to be broken, or not to be had at all. Hasty in the face of his ends, he tends to be a decent strategist if not blinded by outside influences.

Sasuke's greatest weakest is, and always has been, his older brother. Itachi killed his clan, ruined his life, shattered the child and took away the bright future that Sasuke had awaiting him. Sasuke lives for the hatred that Itachi cultivated in him, but, yet, there is still that desire to be acknowledged. The deep-seated hatred only masks an even deeper-seated love and admiration for an older brother that once meant the most to him.

Sasuke also has a weakness for his genin team – they were the only people who accepted him for who he was, loved him and nurtured him and treated like a human. He later goes on to betray them for the promise of power, showing that, yes, in the end, Itachi means infinitely more. However, it is also because of this weakness that Sasuke casts them away; he cannot afford any form of weakness as an avenger.

At the start, Sasuke's desire to get stronger is the dominating factor in his interactions with others and takes precedence over all else. As such he is initially unconcerned with the concepts of socializing. Likewise, Sasuke is uninterested in working with Naruto or Sakura for the good of the mission, believing himself to be much more talented and that working with them will only make him weaker. Soon after the three set out on missions together, however, Sasuke begins to discover that these perceptions are inaccurate; Sakura is a valuable source of information, and Naruto is an effective ally and incentive to get stronger.

As a result of these revelations, Sasuke begins to value his teammates more than he did during their first meeting. While he tries to deny this, his willingness to risk his life to help them even if it could mean never getting a chance to kill Itachi slowly begins to manifest, although this is partly influenced by Sasuke's belief that if he cannot fight in the battle, he will never be strong enough to face Itachi. While Sasuke is a genius, he is a little dull to teach because he learns techniques easily compared to the less predictable Naruto.

Nevertheless, Sasuke ultimately decides to abandon Konoha in order to seek out Orochimaru and gain power. After two years or so, Sasuke sees little change from his personality and mindset since before going to Orochimaru, still craving power above all else. His lust for strength is such that, during his reunion with Naruto and Sakura, he claims to be willing to give his body to Orochimaru if it means killing Itachi. Sasuke has at least changed to a point that he no longer cares for his former teammates' well-beings, being more than willing to kill them since neither is of any use to him. His relationship with Orochimaru shows a similar lack of loyalty, as during their time together he applies no honorifics to Orochimaru's name, is somewhat rude to him, and does not express his allegiance with Otogakure by wearing a Sound headband. Of the loyalties Sasuke has, the only one he displays is that of the Uchiha clan, the symbol of which he wears on his back collar. Despite this lack of allegiances to those close to him, Sasuke seems to be unable to bring himself to needlessly harm those he has never met before, and makes it a point to prevent their deaths when possible.

[edit] Powers and Abilities

Sasuke is a ninja, specializing in Sharingan-based chakra attacks. During his encounter with Naruto, Sasuke is able to use his Sharingan to enter Naruto's subconscious where he proceeds to suppress the demon fox residing within Naruto. When Orochimaru later tries to take over his body, Sasuke is able to use his Sharingan to fight the process and turn it against the other. He is also skilled in fire-based attacks, as that was his clan’s specialty.

He learned the chidori from his teacher, Kakashi, a sparking lightning attack that can supposedly cut through any surface and is deadly combined with Sasuke's greater than average speed. Sasuke puts great deals of development into the Chidori's ability to manipulate lightning-based chakra. He is able to use Chidori Current to emit electricity from all over his body as well. If need be, Sasuke can channel this force into his new sword, increasing the damage the blade does to opponents. He can even concentrate this chakra into highly condensed needle-like forms, which he can throw accuracy. Sasuke has also taken to using form manipulation on the Chidori itself to create an extendable blade form, although he is only able to extend it to 5 meters in length. This blade is also capable of splitting into multiple additional blades upon contact with an enemy, drastically increasing the number of wounds it can inflict.

Orochimaru's influence has also added a number of abilities to Sasuke's arsenal, as first seen with his cursed seal. After recovering from the initial application of the seal, Sasuke finds himself endowed with increased speed and strength, as well as less merciful tendencies when the seal is active.

While in the level 2 form, Sasuke is able to compete with a demon fox-fueled Naruto, and is even given a brief ability to fly when using the wings that grow from his back. Later on after his joining Orochimaru’s ranks, Sasuke is even able to advance only parts of his body to their second level state, and the curse seal itself becomes less tiring for him to use. In addition to the cursed seal, he gains the snake summoning contract. With it, Sasuke can summon snakes to use as shields or call forth smaller snakes from his sleeves to immobilize targets. After absorbing Orochimaru, Sasuke is able to heal at a faster rate, an attribute allowed to him by one of the modifications made to Orochimaru's body.

[edit] History

Sasuke was born to the prestigious Uchiha clan, the second son of the head of the clan. Being the second son, he lived in the shadow of Uchiha Itachi, his prodigy of an older brother. Itachi was one of the strongest ninja that Konohagakure had ever produced, as such, Sasuke was both in awe of and violently envious of his brother. They grew in relative peace, Sasuke showing brightness but not the genius that Itachi exhibited.

Because of Itachi's successes, most of the members of the Uchiha clan looked to Itachi as the clan's future, the biggest proponent of this idea being Sasuke's father, Fugaku Uchiha. From his youth, Sasuke was shadowed by the skill and amazing records his brother created. Sasuke worked hard, spending long days and even longer nights trying and aching to prove himself. However, try as he might, little could be done to draw the necessary attention to his own skills, especially considering how impressive his older sibling was on all fronts. It seemed like no amount of training could help him in surpassing the milestones set in place by his brother. Itachi, aware of Sasuke's struggle for recognition, tried to shift some of their father's attention to Sasuke, even offering to train Sasuke in various fields of ninja abilities. Although Itachi succeeded in getting Fugaku to spend more time with Sasuke, much of that time was still dedicated to Itachi, and all the while Itachi never lived up to his promises of training Sasuke.

When Itachi began to pull away from the family and the clan, Sasuke had his moment in the sun to shine. At this time, Itachi also began to create a more competitive relationship with Sasuke, challenging Sasuke to surpass him. After learning the Gōkakyū no Jutsu, he was accepted into the clan. His father, so eager to ignore him before, paid him the attention he always craved and desired, even if it had been just a little.

Before his father could acknowledge him, however, Itachi, in a grand night of bloodbath, massacred the entire clan. Sasuke was left with nothing but his hatred and the hollow remnants of strong Uchiha child. His clan, his family, murdered, slaughtered where they stood, mouths still fixed and locked forever in the screams of death. But, if such were not cruel enough, his brother, someone whom he had great respect and admiration for, was responsible.

Itachi had informed Sasuke that he wasn't worth killing., and as he left, Itachi repeated his encouragement to Sasuke to get strong enough to surpass him, and disappeared into the night. From that day forth, Sasuke lived as an orphan, longing for the parents that had been taken from him and allowing his brother's words to fester. Soon after the clan's annihilation, Sasuke's only goal in life became to gain power through any means necessary in order to kill Itachi and avenge the clan.

Time grew long and Sasuke became a wonder and prodigy in class, drawing the attention of those around him even if it mattered little to him. Getting through into Squad Seven with Sakura and Naruto, he studied under Kakashi, learning techniques like the Chidori. During the exams, he was exposed to Orochimaru’s search for a host body and received the second push towards a dark path: the curse mark of heaven. After first meeting Orochimaru, Sasuke attempts to continue to get stronger while in Konoha, though he believes that he is slow in accomplishing this task in comparison to his peers. When Itachi arrives in Konoha to kidnap Naruto, Sasuke tries to use what he has learned to kill his brother, though Itachi is able to defeat him with little effort and taunts his inability to get stronger; he was beaten so absolutely that all the progress he had made with Team 7 was lost. He returned to the shell of a person he had been before, and nearly killed his dearest teammate, Naruto, in a direct confrontation.

The fight with Itachi, coupled with Naruto's rapid increase in strength (further enhanced by his learning the Rasengan, a jutsu stronger than the Chidori) and his defeat in the battle with Gaara, convinces Sasuke to abandon Konoha and seek out Orochimaru as a way to get stronger, even at the risk of losing his body and soul. Naruto, determined to bring him back, followed after him with a group of others, friends that wanted Sasuke back equally as much. Sasuke was victorious after a long battle, though only by a thread. He had the chance to kill Naruto and gain the Mangekyo, but he spared his ex-companion’s life out of spite to his brother, not wanting to do anything that Itachi would want him to do.

At that, he submitted to Orochimaru and disappeared to train under him, seeking that wealth of power in hopes of defeating his brother that way. Years later, Naruto and team’s efforts prove successful in at least finding Sasuke, though Sasuke's rapid increase in strength allows him to quickly defeat Naruto, Sakura, and the newer members of Team 7. While he attempts to kill his former comrades, Sasuke is persuaded to spare them in case they can defeat more members of Akatsuki, an organization which Itachi belongs to, and therefore make him easier to kill. It was only after Sasuke tells Orochimaru that he has nothing else to learn from him and that he is unworthy of his body that Orochimaru attempted to take over the Uchiha’s body by force. Nevertheless, Sasuke is able to turn the process against him, later reporting to have simply retained control of his body. With Orochimaru gone, Sasuke recruits Suigetsu, Karin, and Jugo, former subordinates and experimental subjects of Orochimaru, to help him in finding and ultimately killing Itachi. After naming their group "Snake", the group sets out find Itachi.

Word had spread that Orochimaru had been killed by Sasuke, and when the Akatsuki had heard of it, Deidara, enraged that he had not been the one to finish off the snake master, set out with Tobi in hopes of defeating Sasuke. Deidara had discovered him easily, and the two engaged in an extreme battle, in which both were fighting on somewhat equal grounds. In the end, Deidara decided to finish it off by detonating himself, his best and final work of art. Sasuke emerged barely victorious and alive, having summoned Manda and using a genjutsu of it to escape into another dimension.
