[edit] Personality
The soldier known as Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 is a very reserved individual around the majority of those he comes into contact with, speaking only when necessary. However, to those that know him, John has a sarcastic and wry sense of humour. This is off-balanced by his rather gruff demeanour, appearing to be very short and to the point to many that he comes into contact with, seeming as if he is every bit the soldier he was trained to be, nothing more. However, Master Chief has a caring and compassionate side as well, going out of his way and risking debilitating injury to save those he cares about and doing everything possible to keep his friends out of danger.
[edit] Powers and Abilities
{Canon} Johns enhanced physiological structure is the result of the SPARTAN-II project, where he underwent multiple genetic and physical enhancements to turn him into the ultimate soldier. The process gave him a super-advanced musculature and skeletal structure producing prodigious strength and endurance, along with new nerve-endings that resulted in producing a 300 percent increase in his reflexes. However, it was not long before even this was superseded, and John was given the MJOLNIR mark V armour, which only served to further supplement his already astounding physical and tactical capabilities. As well as these physical capabilities, John is also heavily trained in the use of most firearms and explosives, having had extensive experience utilizing even non-human weaponry on the field.
{Within S1!Universe} Stripped of his armour and the tactical know-how of his partner AI, Cortana, Master Chief possesses only his enhanced physiology and own tactical skills. The helmet itself can serve as a pair of very effective binoculars, but is otherwise little addition to his abilities. Without the armour, Johns strength is such that he could potentially kill any human opponent with relative ease despite him being armed or not. However, the neural interface port on the back of his neck is badly damaged as a result of the flux gate, and so his nerves are constantly awash with a dull pain like fire washing along his body in numb bursts. John is well-trained to endure such simple pain, and it is nothing but background noise normally. However, if John pushes himself to exertion, the port can cause considerably more pain to result, ranging to the debilitating.
[edit] History
Before Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 was the man behind the title, he was a young child incepted into the SPARTAN-II program. John survived the all the training and dangerous augments that were thrown his way and quickly grew into the title of SPARTAN-117. However, shortly after this, humanity was attacked by a previously unknown enemy, the alien force known as the Covenant. As a result of this new war, John-117, along with his fellow SPARTAN-IIs were provided with the MJOLNIR mrk V armour which provided them with further augments to their already astounding abilities. Due to a connected series of events that lead to both the destruction of the planet that had become his home during his SPARTAN-II training, John became separated from his fellow SPARTAN-IIs, and would remain as such until later into his military career.
It was at this point when John, who had become known best by his abbreviated rank of Master Chief, took part in the destruction of one of the Forerunner super weapons known as Halo. Shortly after this, Humanity was faced with a war the likes of which had never been encountered before. Every human colony, planet and ship was endangered by the covenant threat, and the UNSC reacted in full. Skirmishes and all out war erupted throughout Humanitys space, but it was not until the mid point in the war when the war would truly erupt onto home soil. Master Chief helped repel the covenant from Earth when they raided, following them to yet another HALO installation, this time deactivating it instead of outright destroying it. However, the result of this put all other HALO installations in standby mode, ready to eradicate all life throughout the galaxy the moment they received the order to from the station known only as the ARK.
As it turned out, the only means of reaching the ARK was back on earth, and the covenant managed to activate and travel through to the other side of the portal, along with Master Chief, a force of UNSC troops, and a host of ex-covenant Elite forces. Master Chief and the human forces, along with their elite comrades, fight against the covenant and attempt to halt the leader of the Covenant forces, The Prophet of Truth, from activating all the rings. However, the tide only truly turned when the horrific flood crash-land on the ARK, arriving via slipspace and the Covenant City known as High Charity that had been previously infested by the Flood hive intelligence known as the Gravemind. Master Chief forms a temporary alliance with the Gravemind, and attempt to stop the Covenant from activating the rings. However, although they manage to kill the Prophet of Truth and stop the ARKs firing sequence from activating, the Flood turned on the human forces. John, along with the remainder of the human forces (and the ex-covies), fought to reach the control center of the newly constructed HALO Installation (however, before this, they also ventured deep within the Floods main infestation to rescue the AI known as Cortana, who possessed the index necessary to activate the ring) that lies at the center of the Ark, but when they attempted to activate it, in order to eradicate all flood existing throughout the installation, they were betrayed. The construct known as Guilty Spark wnt berserk at the idea of destroying one of the installations his creators had formed, and attacked Master Chief and his companions. After defeating Guilty Spark, John then fled the installation along with the remainder of the human forces. Unfortunately, when the ship he was on jumped to slipspace in order to make it home, the section of the ship that John was on separated and drifted into space, removing any chance of the soldier ever returning home. Back at Earth, Master Chief was remembered as a Hero and believed to have perished when the ship broke apart. Fortunately, this was not the case, as John had survived the cataclysmic split, and sealed himself in a cryo-chamber that remained in his section of the ship.
