Gallup (Navajo Naʼnízhoozhí) is a city in and the county seat of McKinley County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 20,209 at the 2000 census. Gallup was founded in 1881 as a railhead for the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad.
Gallup is sometimes called the "Indian Capital of the World" for its location in the heart of Native American lands and the presence of Navajo, Zuni, Hopi and other tribes. U.S. Highway 66 runs through Gallup, and the town's name is mentioned in the lyrics to the song "Route 66."

In 1961, the Sunshine Motel, located outside Gallup, was the site of the inexplicable event that ripped room 10, its occupant, and everything inside into a pocket dimension and transformed the contents of the room into the fantastic and mysterious Objects.
In 1966 the Collectors attempted the disastrous Conroy Experiment at the Sunshine Motel, nearly destroying the world with a dimensional rift.
