Sharn, the fabled City of Towers, is a thriving metropolis in Breland, situated at the mouth of the Dagger River in the bay called the Hilt. The Hilt is a natural harbor, making Sharn a vital seaport, but the rocky spire upon which the city is built is surrounded by inhospitable terrain that discourages construction and expansion of the city limits. Therefore, for uncounted centuries, Sharn has grown in the only direction it could: straight up.

Manifest zone
Sharn is within the boundaries of a manifest zone linked to the plane of Syrania. Within this zone, magical abilities and effects related to flight and levitation are enhanced. It is only because of the manifest zone that Sharn could be built as tall as it is, and if the zone were ever to fail, not only the transportation systems but also the towers themselves would come crashing to the ground.
Districts
Districts within Sharn are separated as much by elevation as lateral location. The lowest levels are also the oldest and poorest, while the highest are exclusively for the wealthiest residents of the city.
- Cliffside is a working-class neighborhood built along the steep slopes of the cliffs rising from the waters of the Hilt. Residents here primarily work in and around the harbor.
- The Cogs are the subterranean bowels of Sharn, housing heavy industry such as smithies and foundries. The Cogs are said to be built close to geothermal heat sources, possibly a lake of molten lava.
- Skyway is the highest district in the city, where the most affluent folk look down upon the rest of the city and disdain the ground below them.
Transport
Most areas of Sharn can be reached by foot or by animal, though the city is large enough to make such travel arduous, especially climbing the many flights of stairs up and down the towers. Magebred animals are available for hire to take riders throughout the city. Magical lifts crawl up and down the sides of many towers, and may traverse horizontally across or between them as well. For those with the coin, sky coaches glide lazily through the air as they carry passengers along their routes. And of course, anyone with the ability to buy or make his own power of flight is free to do so in Sharn.
Adages
Adages and colloquialisms about Sharn reflect its prominence as a mercanitle and trans-cultural hub.
- "If it can be bought, it can be bought here."
- "If someone wants it, someone sells it in Sharn."
