Cayel gives the outward appearance of a proud man who has come a long way on the road of life in a short amount of time. Despite how straight and proper he stands, there is always a small amount of fatigue that will seep through the image, a result of the many years he spent wandering the country as a young man. He has shoulder length, straight, blue hair and deep, gray eyes. He wears very little armor, favoring instead to hide from sight and attack from the shadows. His clothing consists of deep blues, various shades of browns, and gray. Around his forehead, he wears a gray-ish blue headband to keep the hair out of his eyes.

Cayel's father was a general in Tavrica's army and, as such, Cayel has a good grasp on strategy planning and leadership skills. From the time when he was old enough and strong enough to hold a weapon, he was trained in the use of bows and swords, by his older brother, Cieyenne, and their friend Telarfil.. When his father deemed him ready, (about age 23) Cayel went out into the wilderness to fend for himself for a time, to both toughen him up a bit and as a form of further training. During this time, Cayel's father died of old age. When Cayel learned the news, he went into a sort of denial, and took to wandering the country so as not to face the truth of his father's death. At the age of 30, Cayel realized his foolishness and returned to the Dalavar, where he had been raised, and took his place in the army. He quickly rose through the ranks and eventually, word reached the capital in Dainor of his prowess. The Archduke summoned Cayel and had him tested. After passing the tests with flying colors, he was promoted to High Duke, leading the armies at the Archduke's side.
Two years into the Archduke Saenry's second term, Cayel discovered documentation exposing Saenry and his second in command, Duchess Arese Varietta, as treasonous betrayers. He immediately ordered his brother to capture the traitors, but Cieyenne did not manage to catch them before they had fled in exile. Aster Saenry's whereabouts are yet unknown.
With the Archduke and all but one of his immediate subordinates gone, Cayel was the logical choice for Archduke. He immediately promoted two of his most trusted generals to the position of High Duke, ignoring his brother's claims of having helped in the purge of Aster's administration and of deserving one of the High Duke spots. As a result of this, Cieyenne led a coup against his brother that eventually reached the throne room itself. An epic battle ensued, ending in Cieyenne's and Telarfil's exile from Tavrica. Cayel is now always slightly wary, somewhat expecting his brother's return.
Despite his rise to power being marked by bloody revolts, the Council of Duchies feels his term shall lead to a prosperous time of peace for Tavrica. Cayel, however, has no intention of remaining in power for longer than his term allows and will only do so if he is re-elected.
