Land in a Lullaby
From Spfi Wiki
Land in a Lullaby, or LiaL as it is sometimes reduced to for the purposes of being lazy, is a fantasy/horror/comedy loosely based off of the characters and general storyline of The Wizard of Oz tale, with a twist that sets it apart. It also extends its basic ideas and forms to many of the common cliches for fairy tale stories, and several characters which appear in chronologically past and future tales appear within the storyline.
The tale centers around the character Roth, a human teenager who ends up traveling to the alternate world often used in The Last Stop To Nowhere, known in this story as in the previous few, as only The Continent. With him comes his estranged, female next-door neighbor, who is currently in the processing of completing a phase known as 'acting-out' against all authority and who has been a subject of extreme frustration for Roth ever since he came to live near her. Upon their arrival to The Continent, the two find themselves significantly altered into mythical creatures and sent on a quest which they are none too sure will result in their return home.
The main focus of the story in the overall plot of the Last Stop To Nowhere series is that the problem concerning the flux caused by Nowhere is expanding; not only into The Continent but across to modern, human world where Nowhere itself is. Thus at the beginning, the spread of the Undead Virus is beginning in Roth's home, and has reached it's near-peak in The Continent.

General Storyline
The story begins with the introduction of Rothgard Avery, affectionately known to his apparently nonexistent friends as merely Roth, a high school student at the public educational facility of our favorite troubled, out-in-the-middle-of-it Nowhere, Tennesse—a town made well-known by several other works. Stumbling though a 'typical Monday' that happens to take place on Friday, much to his chagrin, Roth finds himself running late to class, having his keys and notebook confiscated along with his new glasses, and ultimately sent to the principal's office. It is there he meets Sadie Hawkins, his next door neighbor who insists on being called 'Pyro', but is not obliged.
The two then make a startling discovery: the student body and faculty have all been transformed into flesh-hungry, blood-thristy, jerking, growling, snarling, and drooling undead monsters, much like zombies, and are viciously attacking all not yet infected. Fleeing to Roth's home after a detour to recollect his keys and horror notebook—which is later grabbed and ripped to shreds by a zombie—Roth and Sadie are forced by Roth's grandparents to hide in the basement while they defend the home.
After awakening from a blow to their respective heads, Roth and Sadie find themselves in a chiseled stone version of the cellar, and while seeking a way out, travel through a tunnel, only to find the mouth sealed by a giant rock. When they finally manage to push the rock up out of the tunnel they emerge into a place called the Continent, a world of fantasy and oddity. Roth, transformed into a gryphon, finds that he and Sadie, who transformed into a dragonling, have just killed the Spirit of the East, and are thus charged with the task of delivering her enchanted item, a Cerulean Cloak, to the mystery shrouded ruler situated at the center of the Continent, known as the High King. It is this journey that the story follows, as Roth is met by many other strange characters that will either further his quest, or detour it.
Trivia
- The name 'Land In A Lullaby' originally was meant to only be a working title. It came from the song Somewhere Over The Rainbow which was performed by Judy Garland in the movie rendition of The Wizard of Oz. The passage—...there's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby.—was among the co-creator Nammish's favorites appearing in the movie and book both, and thus the project name was altered from the verse. The name stuck after no suitable alternate was found, and became the official title.
- The species/forms in which the characters of Land In A Lullaby appear-a griffin, zombie, wendigo, etc.- are among the many online aliases which the creators have used, and are direct interpretations of the characters of the Wizard of Oz storyline: Roth as Dorothy, Sadie as Toto, Peres as the Scarecrow, Forge as the Tin Woodsman, and Ia as the Cowardly Lion. They also have the same goals as their respective incarnations, albeit for different reasons.
