Steam Engines of the Forest
From Sodor Island Forums
Written by Bono (Road Roller), Steam Engines Of The Forest is based around both Engines and Humans, of the Fictional Village on the Coast of Cornwall known as Oak Forest Village. But instead of the Engines being those that Run on Rails, they are based off Traction Engines, each having a Unique type. So far the Series has been alive nearly a year, with one Series and a Special made.
Series Two has had three stories written, which then flows into a Spin Off Series, known as ‘Travels of Britain’, which is coming into a close, but ending with a Feature Length Special, which is a Combination of Famous Early 20th Century Ship Legends, such as the White Star Line’s Olympic, Titanic and Britannic, and Cunard Lines Lusitania, Mauritania and Aquitania. Some of these Ships even still being in service at the time.
The Series try’s to stick as much as possible to Early 20th Century Industry such as Ship Building and the demising of the Common Traction Engine, while the Steam Roller was well lived until the End of World War II. Were the Working Class was still very much looked down upon by those richer.
Character Bio's and Information
Great Britain
Built by Wallis and Steevens of Basingstoke, Great Britain originally worked in the City of Truro at a Road Working depot, shunting ‘Dead Engines’. Something which still Haunts him quite a bit. Later on in his working Life, the Oil Bath Steam Tractor was replaced by a Steam Wagon, so Britain was kept as a spare Engine at the back of depot. He was soon sold for Scrap however, and soon went into a state of depression were the face on his Smoke Box vanishes altogether, and can only be brought back to life once restored and loved once again. He was found at the back of the Scrap Heap by Oak Haulage Workers Jono and Chris, Jono brought him as his Favourite type of Engine was a Wallis Tractor, and brought him back to Oak Village. Were he was restored over Winter and Spring and ready for the summer. Jono named him Great Britain, in Honour f the Country that lead the world in Industry. Soon, Britain, Chris and Jono went on a tour around Britain, which unfortunately for them, would end in Disaster.
Jonathan
Built by Wallis and Steevens of Basingstoke, Jonathan was the First Engine to arrive at the newly opened Haulage Business in Oak Village. He worked splendidly on his own for a few weeks before the arrival of two new Engines, Duke of Oak and Sir John. When World War I broke out, Jonathan continued to Repair the Bomb torn Roads around the area, but when news of his Owner perishing on the battle field came into Light, Jonathan went into Depression that sealed his Temporary fate. With out his owner, he confided in his Widow, who looked after him in his shed. The Council would Loan out Jonathan, but one Rainy Day, Jonathan slipped down a Hill and into a ditch, damaging his front end. Being a Roller, Jonathan didn’t have the grip to stop it. He limped back to the shed, were the Council Workers covered him up and left him in peace. He remained there for years, having a regular Visit from Mr. Dibnah’s wife. When Mr. Dibnah’s son took control of the Family business, he sort out to bring all his Fathers Engine’s back together, were they all now were spread over the country. When Jonathan was Restored to his Traction Engine guise, he awoke once more to sadness, as the Women who has saved from the scrap heap for all those years, had sadly passed away.
