Pre-Deluge history and biography
Shawn Spencer (age 30) was born and raised in Santa Barbara, CA. He spent his time being honed into a detective machine by his father. His every interest ridiculed. Even playing hide and seek was seen as a competition and not a game. He wasn't allowed the same things that other kids were. Comic books were forbidden.
Shawn grew to severely dislike his father. He never really hated him, just resented him. Shawn did everything he could to be the complete opposite of his father. After graduating from highschool, he went to help console his mother after his parents' divorce was final.
After spending about a year with his mother, Shawn travelled the world, going from job to job. By his 30th birthday Shawn had worked a total of 57 jobs, the longest lasting 6 months. He always ended up back in Santa Barbara, though. And he always had Gus to rely on.
Gus had been Shawn's best friend since they were practically in diapers. They did everything together. They even endured Henry's rigorous training in the form of boyscounts, Henry being the troop leader. Shawn could always rely on Gus no matter what. He could always count on Gus to follow him to Mexico, even if they got in trouble. They did almost everything together. Although Gus held a steady job and Shawn didn't know the meaning of the words.
Shawn once again found himself in Santa Barbara and spent his time solving cases by watching the news. Eventually he was brought in and was a suspect in the most recent crime because his information was "too good" and the culprit had a partner. To keep from being arrested he managed to convince the police department that he was, in fact, a psychic. He'd finally get some use out of the photographic memory and attention to detail his father had drilled into him.
What excited Shawn the most was the chance to work with Gus every day, even though Gus had a stead job at Central Coast Pharmaceuticals. They managed to solve crimes together, Gus helping Shawn more than Shawn was willing to admit. Shawn was also forced to turn to his father on occasion and they were beginning to have something of a relationship. That was until the wave came. Shawn was in Oklahoma visiting a friend when it hit. He started out in Tulsa and ended up in a little podunk town he'd never heard of. The thing that amazed him the most was that, when he woke up, Gus was with him. He'd left Gus in Santa Barbara and now they were together.
Post-Deluge events
Shawn was happy that Gus survived the wave and was devestated when he started showing the symptoms of the plague. He did everything he could to help Gus, even robbing a local pharmacy for all of the drugs he thought might help. Shawn started to carry a gun with him, and some ammo. One thing Henry didn't know was that Shawn is an expert marksman.
When Gus died, Shawn had nothing left. He decided there was no point in staying where he was. He needed to get out of there. He decided to head east. He hadn't been to the east coast for a couple of years. Maybe he could find some people out there. He just knew that he couldn't be alone.
