Pre-Deluge history and biography
Goren has a very unique personality. He has a tendency to notice things about crime scenes that even the crime scene investigators miss. He’s a bookworm who knows a little of everything and speaks German and English. He is known for his unusual mannerisms such a tilting his head and broken pattern of speech. He is withdrawn generally and is rarely understood by others. He also has the ability to pick up on patterns in crime scenes and clues.
Goren has a very checked past. At age 7, Bobby realized that his mommy wasn’t like other mommies. At age 11, his father, who is now dead, left leaving his mother to care for the two sons. His mother suffers from schizophrenia and is currently institutionalized. He visits her once a week and calls her everyday. He is estranged from his older brother who is a gambling addict.
Goren is a Desert Storm veteran. During his time in the army he worked for the Army CID as a profiler. He worked in both South Korea and Germany during his time in the Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart and was a sergeant while in South Korea. After the army, he joined the NYPD and worked for 4 years in Narcotics where he ran 3 sting operations (27 arrests, all led to convictions). He is accomplished at the art of working undercover as well. He joined Major Case Squad and is a Detective, First Grade. His partner is Detective Alexandra Eames.
Goren is known around the NYPD as being a little ‘out there’ and appears to have some borderline symptoms of schizophrenia. He is able to work well with witnesses and suspects suffering from mental health issues because of his practice dealing with his mother. He has an intense hatred of deadbeat dads that steams from his own father’s short-comings. He played Junior Varsity basketball in high school and was an alter boy. He is a lapsed Catholic and is pro-choice. His nickname is Bobby.
Post-Deluge events
Goren was horrified by what happened to the world after the wave went through. He was in his apartment when it happened, making himself a sandwich. The police officer ran into work to see what was wrong but was met with a horrific sight as many of his co-workers were nothing more than piles of ash. He ended up fleeing New York City with a small band of survivors.
As he ran away he started to realize people around him were dying from the mysterious disease. Bobby was unable to comprehend what was going on- none of his schooling had prepared him for that. Soon, he was the only member of his group that had lived long enough to make it to Illinois.
Now, Bobby is making his way from town to town, avoiding mobs that had started to come after anyone who represented law enforcement. Unable to reveal who he really is the former cop is a wanderer, searching for anyone he knew before the wave and just hoping to live to see the next day. He just wants to find some place where he can live in peace.
