Pre-Deluge history and biography
Born and raised in Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, James Frederick Wilson was an only child of wealthy parents. They spoiled him rotten when he was younger. The spoiling only continued when, at age four, James was diagnosed with Leukemia. Fortunately his parents had the money and the means to see James through to a full recovery. This sparked his interest in Oncology.
James was a straight A student, earning a scholarship to McGill University. It was there that James earned his medical education and began his specialty in Oncology. It was also there that James met the first of three wives. The marriage lasted all of six months before he found his wife in bed with another man. This would become a repeating pattern for James. All three of his marriages ended in divorce due to adultery. If you ask any of his wives, however, they will say they turned to other men because of James’ mental, if not physical, affairs with other women.
After graduation, James spent two years in the oncology department at John Peter Smith hospital in Ft. Worth, Texas which was a drastic change from Canada. This was his first introduction into American medicine. He then moved to Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital in New Jersey because the pay was better and he had the chance to do more research and delve into experimental treatments. Opportunities he did not have in Texas. It was upon his first day at Princeton-Plainsboro that James met Dr. Gregory House. Even with House’s sarcastic attitude, the two became friends almost immediately.
James often let House take advantage of that friendship simply because of his inherent need to please the people in his life. Even when House did something to anger him severely, when House was in need, James was there. He also provided consults on House’s patients when needed. The two even spent a short time living together after James’ third marriage fell apart.
Post-Deluge events
At the time of the Deluge, James was enjoying one of his few days off. He’d actually been able to sleep late. When he woke up, however, he wasn’t in his bed, but in one of the beds at the hospital. Being a doctor, and a scientist, he sought out to find out exactly what happened. The onset of Fate’s Handmaiden frustrated James to no end. Though he’d dealt with terminally ill patients in the past, he couldn’t handle the large number of dead the plague caused. At the first appearance of the plague, James’ first thought was “Where’s House when you need him? He could cure this. He could cure anything.”
James knew that House and Foreman were gone, but he didn’t know where. He also couldn’t find Cuddy. The only people in the hospital that James could find were Chase and Cameron. He watched both of them die of Fate’s Handmaiden, but neither went down without a fight. Staying true to their mentor, they looked for a cure for the disease with their dying breaths. With the hospital, as well as the city, nearly emptied out, James decided that it was time to move on. Fortunately, there’d been one other survivor of the plague so he wouldn’t have to travel alone.
