Pre-Deluge history and biography
Catherine “Mugs” Willows was born and raised near Bozeman, Montana. She was raised by her mother and step father, though she didn’t know he was her stepfather at the time. She later came to find out that her biological father was a casino owner in Las Vegas, NV. Catherine lived on a horse ranch during her life and she hated every minute of it. Finally, at age 16, she left home.
She first went to Seattle with her rock star wanna be boyfriend, who later dumped her when the money ran out. Catherine moved on, heading to Las Vegas where she became an exotic dancer. She married and had a child, but her husband Eddie left her with $10 to her name and a nasty cocaine habit. Catherine kicked the habit and went to college, earning a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology from Las Vegas University.
Catherine became a Crime Scene Investigator for Clark County, NV where Las Vegas is located. She is a CSI level 3 and second in command of the night shift under Gil Grissom. Catherine has a daughter named Lindsay whom she had to enroll in private school when problems developed after Eddie’s death. Though she’s had several flirtations, Catherine hasn’t dated seriously since Eddie.
Post-Deluge events
Catherine was in the middle of processing a crime scene when the Deluge hit. One minute she was dusting for fingerprints, the next she was in the middle of a hospital emergency room. She helped out who she could but eventually she found out that she’d somehow been transported to New Jersey. She tried to call Grissom but her cell phone had no service and the phone lines were down. While she put herself to work in her current situation, she couldn’t help but wonder if Lindsay was okay, or her mother, or her sister. She continued to think about her family, and her friends back in Las Vegas.
The plague devastated her. She’d worked with death every day but she’d never seen anything like the carnage the plague caused. She’d seen murders. Shootings and stabbings and drowning and hanging, never a disease that ravished the body in hours. Again she tried to help as much as she could. She reminded herself that she was a scientist first and foremost. That people needed help and she was there to give it.
When the plague was finally over, she assessed the situation. She was in a hospital that normally had a staff of at least a thousand people, in a city with hundreds of thousands of people, and it seemed that she and one doctor had survived. She spent several days exploring the city, trying to find anyone else that might be alive, but always returned to the hospital alone. Finally, she and the doctor decided it was time to move on. Maybe they could find other survivors somewhere else. If not, she thought to herself, she could think of a worse candidate to repopulate the world with.
