Methodology of the Great Work
Outsiders not familiar with the inner workings of the Ordo Dracul often find it difficult to determine just what the Dragons spend their nights doing, shuttered up in their eerie sanctums. Each Dragon seems to have very different beliefs from her fellow Dragons. For a covenant that appears to have a tradition of orthodoxy, this makes no sense at all. The Ordo Dracul, in fact, embraces an extremely broad range of philosophies and methodologies.
Generally speaking, as long as a Dragon observes the Principia Draconis and adheres to the scientific method, the precise way in which she approaches the Great Work matters little. So long as she does not submit to demonic possession, a blood bond, or similar external control, she is free to rely on any methodology she prefers. It is results that count.
Players of Dragons are encouraged to think about their character's chosen methodology of transcendence. Think of a television series about medicine, and how awkward it would be if the actors playing doctors didn't understand anything about medicine. All of the medical terms would be Star Trek-style technobabble. Now imagine those actors trying to improvise their lines. Your character's methodology is an important part of her Requiem, and worth spending some time getting a handle on.
Traditional Western Methodologies
Founded in Europe, the earliest methodologies utilized by the Ordo Dracul came from the Western Occult tradition.
Traditional Non-Western Methodologies
Contact with Asia, which had its own traditions of transcendence, yielded more fruit.
African and Native American shamanic traditions sometimes skate close to prohibitions against subsuming one's will to other forces, and are usually more closely associated with the Circle of the Crone, but there is a small contingent of practitioners of these methods.
Nineteenth Century Methodologies
The Ordo Dracul experienced an explosion of new methodologies in the nineteenth century as the scientific method was adopted and interesting things were discovered about mortal occult practices which came into vogue during this time.
Twentieth Century Methodologies
As the occult and scientific landscape has continued to evolve, newer techniques and ideas continue to develop and evolve.
Non Standard or Unique Methodologies
Some Ordo Dracul strike out on thier own and forge new paths. These techniques are rarely taught to others and if they are rarely draw a large following.
Academies
Academy of London - Encompassing all of the South of the Twilight Isle, the Academy of London is perhaps the most pivotal Academy within this darkened Isle.
This recently formed Academy is still actively recruiting, and those based in the North of England who wish to join it may make application to the Provost or other members of the Admissions Board. A vetting procedure is in place, and application does not automatically lead to membership of this Academy. Diablerists or those who support this practise need not apply.
