[edit] Physical Description
Claude is tall (6' 1") and fairly rangy. He has wavy sandy brown hair, beard and mustache, all of which are beginning to grey. He has piercing blue eyes that go very stormy when he is angry, and his ears and nose are somewhat larger than average. He has a tendency to wear very casual clothes and look disreputable, and carries a 'walking stick' everywhere. All of this is carefully calculated to make people underestimate him and dismiss him as a threat. The 'walking stick' is really his weapon of choice, and he is quite good with it.
[edit] Personality
To most, he is cranky and disagreeable, sarcastic, and blunt to the point of rudeness.
[no, really, there's more to come when I'm not dead asleep on my feet...]
[edit] History
[edit] Before the Virus
Claude used to work for the Company, as the partner of Noah Bennet. Seven years before show time, it was discovered that he was protecting 'one of them' (i.e. Specials) and was branded a security risk. Bennet was tasked to 'deal' with him. Claude had hoped that Bennet would lie to the Company and say he had done so, and let him go, but Bennet shot him. Claude went invisible and hid until Bennet left, then crawled off to have his wounds treated. By the time he was well enough to return and warn the Special he was protecting (his lover at that time), it was too late -- the Company had found and killed him.
Claude left Texas, having nothing left to keep him there. He'd lost his job, his home, his best friend, his sort-of-adopted family, and his lover. He made his way to NYC and spent the next few years hiding in plain sight -- looking like a homeless person when he was visible, spending nights in abandoned buildings or sometimes in vacant hotel rooms. He did what he did best -- survived -- and convinced himself that he didn't need or want anyone.
Until Peter Petrelli found him and begged for help controlling his abilities. Despite his initial reaction to Peter, he found himself drawn to the empath and agreed to train him. He hoped they could become something more than just friends, but there was too little time before his past came back to haunt him in the form of a bag-n-tag team consisting of the Haitian and Bennet. Peter saved him, but his sense of self preservation kicked into high gear, and he ran for it.
The explosion in the sky over Kirby Plaza made him come back to NYC, and he ran into Bennet again. They reconciled, Claude making a rare admission that he couldn't stand to lose anyone else. He renewed his friendship with the Bennet family, and tried to keep an eye on them/protect them when Bennet wasn't around.
