Zipper Grenade Launcher

From Reach

The Zipper is a personal grenade launcher, extremely popular among players looking to enhance their firepower. It's designed to fire the popular Frizbee Grenades, farther and more precisely than anyone could throw them.

To load the Zipper, a user simply slides a charge into an open slot on the side of the firing chamber until it automatically locks into place. Grenades are not armed until the trigger is pulled, and the locking mechanism is extremely sturdy, so Zipper users are allowed to "play rough," making reloading relatively quick. However, users must also be aware that the firing mechanism relies on a small Carbon engine, which must be loaded with a fresh Tin every 20 firings. Since Carbon 122's most useful property is it's high-energy combustion, this procedure is significantly more delicate.

When the trigger is pulled, the carbon engine quickly fires up, applying massive torque to the locking mechanism, spinning the charge up to 300 rpms, producing the high pitched whir for which the Zipper is named. A fraction of a second later, a piston drives the locking mechanism, still attached to the charge, down a 20cm track, releasing the round at the end, propelling the spinning charge accurately up to 400 meters.

The Zipper is extremely popular due to it's versatility. It has no stock, only a pair of mounting bolts. This allows it to be attached to a traditional stock as a stand alone weapon, attached as an accessory to a primary weapon, or even mounted to a vehicle. Furthermore, the track can be extended, and the engine upgraded, to turn the Zipper into a powerful mortar.
