Storeton Community Radio

From Pirate Index

Storeton Community Radio was a pirate station in the Merseyside area of the UK.

The station ran from 1982 on 1026 Khz Mediumwave. The policy was to provide a public service for the community and running costs of the station were shared by the presenters, who paid weekly subscriptins. [1]

At it’s peak, the station, known locally as SCR, got a good response from the public and featured local club DJ's who organised nights out for the listeners. In 1984, the station was raided by the authorities.[2].

Storeton Community Radio returned to the airwaves the following year, but some of the presenters left and went to a rival station, Radio Merseywaves
