Jamie's Big Eat
From Pirate Bitch
Jamie's Big Eat is a TV quiz show hosted by Jamie Tuffield with help from Gladys Nicholson.
Jamie has to whizz around his local McSupermarket eating as much as possible. On one memorable show the great John Lennon appeared and put on an impromptu concert with one of the till girls, Paul McCartney. It was about two weeks later the Beatles were formed.
However Jamie wasn't put off and carried on eating through Eleanor Eat Me and Eat Me Do but stopped to listen to We're All Dining in a Yellow Focaccia thereby failing that week's show. Paul McCartney is said to have found all that so amusing that more than twenty years later at the original Live Aid concert in London, the real reason he couldn't be heard on his solo of Let It Be was that the engineers had deliberately turned his mic off as Paul was actually singing Let It Eat.
In another show, Elvis Presley popped into the McSupermarket and, while studying a bottle of Heinz Tomato Sauce, wrote a song, All Shook Up. While looking at some memory tablets which had been put aside so Jamie didn't eat them by mistake he wrote You Were Always On My Mind. Unfortunately Tuffield ate the lyrics so there is no actual proof this is the case.
Past shows have also attracted big stars such as Andy Forbes and Stevie Wonder.
The format has changed over the years. After the successful suicide live on air of unimportant extra Nathan Page, the decision was taken to ban guests from bringing their own guns into the studios.
It is the inspiration for the restaurant Jamie's Big Eatery, a trendy themed restaurant located in the West End of London. It's design is based on the popular television show. The layout of the restaurant reflects the studio, with patrons surrounded by aisles with goods in them and shopping trolleys. One has to put a £1 coin into a chair before it will withdraw and allow one to sit in it. One customer, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It's authentic, but also damn inconvenient".
