Prevanian Armed Forces

From Nova

The Prevanian Armed Forces contain about 12 million regular personnel (about 1.2% of the population) in five different forces.

The Prevanian armed forces contain five sections:

  1. The Prevanian Army – The army is the oldest section of the Prevanian Armed Forces. It consists of about 5,500,000 regular personnel, of which 1/3 are support.
  2. The Prevanian Air Marines - The Air Marinies are the elite Prevanian infantry organisation. They were founded in 1985 by Direktor Boris Berenovski after he smashed the Prevanian Army. There are 200,000 men (support is provided by the Navy or Army).
  3. The Prevanian Air Force – The air force is of a reasonable size. However, as the Prevanian leadership prefers airships over aeroplanes, the budget is limited and replacement rates are low. There are approximately 16 000 planes and 800 000 men.
  4. The Prevanian Navy – As Prevania is on an island, the navy is a priority. There are 5,000,000 men on 2000 ships, including 6 V/STOL Karl Marx Class carriers (HDS Friedrich Engels, HDS Karl Marx, HDS Mao Zedong, HDS Trotsky, HDS Lenin and HDS Stalin), 18 cruisers, 100 destroyers and 10 nuclear submarines. With the exception of the Submarine HDS Resolute, all the ships have been made in Prevania.
  5. The Prevanian Air Fleet – Prevania is unique in that it is one of only a scant few countries that have a military arm dedicated to rigid airships. Prevanian Aerospace and the German-speaking Pacific Zepplins conglomerate are the main suppliers for the fleet. It comprises of 500,000 on some 384 rigid airships which are mainly used for attack, reconnaissance, command and transport. In peace-time, the 175 attack airships are divided up into four air groups, each lead by one of the five immense 800m Nelson Class missile aero-cruisers:
    • Air Group Alpha (HDAS Scheer)
    • Air Group Beta (HDAS Hood)
    • Air Group Gamma (HDAS Nelson)
    • Air Group Delta (HDAS Holtzendorff)
    • Air Group Prevenstein (HDAS Jellicoe)

National Service

Upon leaving full-time education, every male and female undertakes 8 weeks of manditory training. The default branch is the army, though those with the right aptitudes go into other sections. Then, until the age of 35, they are required to do a further 2 weeks training a year. If war breaks out and they are needed, they can be called up and, after 4 weeks training, sent into battle.

Conscientious objectors can choose to do civilian national service instead, although they do 5 weeks of this per year.
