Local Defense Forces
Every Prevanian male between the ages of 18 and 40 must belong to their Local Defense Force. The only exceptions are for those deemed unfit for service due to physical or mental problems by 2 separate military doctors.
At the age of 18, every suitable male undergoes 3 weeks of basic training to give them some effectiveness as a fighting force. This will be the most that most receive, with every person being obliged to undergo a further weekends training every year.
For officers and those using specialised weapons, there will be a further 2 to 5 weeks training. These people, therefore receive better pay for their service.
Exemptions
For those in certain occupations: some factory workers, transport workers, some engineers, farmers, etc, they are excused the need to join their LDF, but will still have to receive 1 weeks basic training in the use of weapons.
Those unfit for service must do a weeks national service per year in a civil capacity, so that they too can aid their country.
Conscientious objectors are permitted not to serve in their LDF. However, they still receive one weeks instruction on weapons usage. Furthermore, they must do 3 weeks national service per year, in addition to paying a fine of 5% of their income and savings.
Service
In addition to the training, each member of an LDF is obliged to man the local defenses for 4 days every year, so that complete coverage of the nation's defenses can be assured.
Activation
Level 1
This is the standard level of LDF activation, with conditions as described above. This is the most common level, used when there is no perceived threat of invasion.
Level 2
This is the preliminary alert status. Under level 2, each LDF member must report to their HQ to receive the weapon and ammunition within 24 hours of Level 2 being announced. Manning levels of the defenses will be doubled. Level 2 is automatically activated in the event of war or a terrorist activity.
Level 3
This is the general alert status. At level 3, all vehicles earmarked for LDF usage must be brought within 24 hours to the local LDF depot in readiness for conversion. All weapons systems will be tested. AA systems will be installed on the roofs of all tall buildings.
Level 4
This is invasion alert. At level 4, curfews will be enacted in all costal areas. All LDF members must prepare for the treat of an invasion. The costal defences will be brought up to full readiness, with all mines activated. LDF members will also close down the motorway system to non-essential traffic. All LDF members must report to their designated anti-invasion posts, with many moving into costal LDF areas. All LDF designated vehicles will be converted. The rail and air network will also be closed to non-essential traffic.
Level 5
Level 5 is an actual invasion. A nation-wide curfew will be enabled. All LDF members will to their utmost to repel the invasion.
