Government review of Medical Training Application Service
Last updated: 17 May 2007
The Royal College of Pathologists welcomes the Government’s decision to carry out an immediate review of the Medical Training Application Service (MTAS), the new system by which doctors are now selected and placed for specialist training. This College, like others, was dismayed by the flaws in this new system, and the distress this has caused.
The Royal College of Pathologists is a member of the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges. As such it fully supports the Academy’s course of action, and its agreement to work with the Department of Health to resolve these problems. The College will share in this work to ensure that necessary action is taken, and to ensure confidence is restored in the selection process.
The College is committed not only to excellence in training but also to equitable and transparent selection processes. The College particularly wishes to acknowledge the hard work of so many of its members in dealing with the difficulties of the short-listing and interview process.
