College Officers’ Respond to MTAS Selection Process
“We recognise the anguish and anxiety that trainees and their families have experienced over the last few weeks as a result of the uncertainty caused by the MTAS selection process and its subsequent review. For psychiatry, we have specifically asked for the following:
- Confirmation that second interviews will be offered to applicants for psychiatry
- For an extension to the deadline for repreferencing to allow trainees in psychiatry to reprereference their first two choices
- Clarification of how, whether and when applicants can repreference for Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland.
- Clarification on what trainees will need to do to modify any repreferencing that they have already undertaken since MTAS issued new instructions yesterday (19th April 2007).
We have been informed that these outcomes are achievable for our speciality within legal constraints and that a possible solution is imminent.
We urge you all to regularly follow the MTAS/MMC websites as any new instructions will hopefully be communicated via them.”
