Tell them not to be bothered by a rumor

"What my father says is true, Duke." You nod accordingly, but offer a polite smile. "Peasants talk of many things, and reasons gives way in the face of rumor." You look to your father, who gives you an approving wink.
"If we send men to investigate, we'll only anger the other Dukes. We cannot begin to call into question another man's loyalty because the peasants say something is afoot." The king said.
The Duke glances between you and the King. He seems conflicted, but eventually opens his greasy lips.
"May we speak in private, your grace?" he asks, still wringing his hands.
"Of course," answered the king. He nods to you, giving you leave.
"Please escort the Duchess to the main hall, and see she has some wine," the King commands you.
