FINAL DUEL I #7200 and FINAL DUEL II #7201 (2002)

These two sets are wee little ones and are closely associated with each other so I’ll cover both in one review. Lego was busy planning Episode II sets in 2002 so this was among the few sets released prior to the actual wave for that movie. These two sets recreate a pivotal moment in Episode VI, and is structured such that you have to obtain both sets in order to completely re-enact the moment. Also, the sentimental value is sky high, as these two were my very first SW Lego sets.

The two Final Duels are probably how fans amass those armies of stormtroopers, Imperial Guards and even Darth Vaders! There are many reasons to get these sets and most of them are concentrated at the minifigs. Final Duel II depicts Luke’s surrender and comes with an Imperial officer (with a great hat, uniform and an odd smiley face), a stormtrooper and Luke in his black Jedi robes, with the new facial detail resembling young Obi-Wan’s. After hearing the list of minifigures available, anyone would jump at the chance.

Final Duel I, on the other hand, features Darth Vader and the Emperor awaiting Luke’s arrival, one of the few instances where Lego releases two prominent caped figures in such a small set. Either way, the two kits chock up points in the minifig section for sure.

Unfortunately, other than the minifigs, there really isn’t too much about Final Duel II. A simple walkway is all that’s included otherwise. Final Duel I fares slightly better here: the Emperor’s stylish swivel chair is put in. The TIE cockpit window piece is used as a lookout window, placed behind the chair. A simple but effective design.

Combine the two sets; add your own MOC extended walkway diorama and you’ll have father and son battling away. Get them as a pair, it works very well.

RATING: FINAL DUEL I: 3.5/5 STARS FINAL DUEL II: 3/5 STARS
