The Briscoe Brothers are the professional wrestling tag team of Jay Briscoe (Jamin Pugh) and Mark Briscoe (Mark Pugh). They are currently wrestling for the American online promotions Attitude Era Wrestling. The Briscoe Brothers have won the AEW Tag Team Championship two times for AEW. Jay Briscoe was once signed with Global Wrestling Federation where he has won the GWF Hardcore Championship on two separate occasions for the GWF promotion, before leaving the promotion in 2014. In 2014, Championship Wrestling closed down.

[edit] Early life

The Pugh brothers, Jamin (Jay) (born January 25, 1984) and Mark (born January 17, 1985) grew up in Laurel, Delaware. As high schoolers, both received honorable mention All-State honors their junior and senior years for football, Jay as a fullback and a linebacker and Mark as a tight end and a linebacker. At one point, both were signed to play for Wesley College (Delaware), a fact even used in wrestling storyline at one point.

The brothers first became interested in wrestling in their youth by watching the World Wrestling Federation on one of the two channels their television could receive. Originally, they practiced wrestling moves with one another on a trampoline before the family built a wrestling ring in their backyard. From the beginning, the two of them worked on honing their craft, taping their moves and trying to improve them. Despite the fact that their dad was a coach for their high school's wrestling team, they did not participate in amateur wrestling in their high school years. Their first foray into professional wrestling came with the East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA), while they were still in high school. While their mother, Jana, was in line to purchase tickets to attend a wrestling event, a promoter for the ECWA approached her and asked if her sons had a tape of themselves wrestling. This led to the brothers debuting for ECWA on May 20, 2000 under the ring names "Jay and Mark Briscoe".

The Briscoe's debuted in AEW immediately sparking a feud with The Shield that began at Mayhem where The Briscoe Brothers interfered in the AEW Tag Team Championship handicap match between The Shield and Chris Hero, however The Shield was able to win the AEW Tag Team Championships, On an episode of Concussion It was announced that at Superclash, The Briscoe Brothers would face off with the Shield in a Two-on-Three Handicap match with the AEW Tag Team Championship on the line it would be The Briscoe Brothers first title shot since joining the promotion. On June 30, 2013 at the Superclash pay-per-views, The Briscoe Brothers defeated The Shield to win the Tag Team Championship, the Briscoe Brothers would than begin a small feud with Bad Influence who had debuted around the same time as the Briscoe Brothers.

On the June 22, 2013 episode of Concussion Jay Briscoe defeated Christopher Daniels, later on in the night it was announced that the Briscoe Brothers would defend the AEW Tag Team Championship against Bade Influence in the YouTube Pre-show. At the Redemption YouTube Pre-show the Briscoe Brothers defeated Bad Influence to retain the AEW Tag Team Championship, they lost the Tag Team Championship to CM Punk and Colt Cabana on an episode of Concussion, later on that night after The Tribe attacked Punk and Cabana injuring Cabana, Shane McMahon had Punk defend the Tag Team Championships against The Tribes' Tag team of The Uso Brothers, Punk would loss the Tag Team Championships to The Usos. At AEW 1: Punk vs. Rock, Jay and Mark defeated The Usos in a Samoan Strap match to win the Tag Team Championship for the second time in their AEW career. At Ultimate Ascension the Briscoe Brothers successfully defend the AEW Tag Team Championships against the Usos. They would eventually lose the AEW Tag Team Championships to Zami Zayn and Daniel Bryan, it would later be announced that both Jay and Mark Briscoe will take part in this years Money in the Bank ladder match at Superclash III, but were unsuccessful to win the Money in the Bank ladder match, they failed to win the Money in the Bank ladder match.

On the January 11 Concussion, the Brothers defeated The New Day in a number one contenders match for the AEW Tag Team Championship, than on the same show they defeated the AEW Tag Team Champions The Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards) to win the AEW Tag Team Championship for the third time, all in part of their plan to "Take" AEW over, starting with the AEW Tag Team Championship.

Jay Briscoe caught immediate success in GWF when he defeated Jack Swagger to become the new GWF Hardcore Championship, he debuted a new group into GWF known as Team Honor also including The American Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards) and Rhino, Rhino left the company in 2013, the only remaining members are The American Wolves and the Briscoe Brothers. On the December 2, 2013 episode of Raw Jay Briscoe defeated Hardcore Champion Austin Aries and Bobby Roode in a Triple threat match to win the GWF Hardcore Championship for the second time in his career. Jay Briscoe would go on to loss the Hardcore Championship to Jon Moxley on an episode of Raw. Brisoce had a couple of shots at the GWF Intercontinental Championship when Austin Aries in a Triple threat match also involved former James Storm, however he failed to win the GWF Intercontinental Championship, Austin Aries won and retain the Intercontinental Championship. At the 2014 Royal Rumble pay-per-view, Jay Briscoe was in a Championship Scramble with Intercontinental Champion The Miz also involving Ryback, Jon Moxley and John Morrison for the GWF Intercontinental Championship, Briscoe again failed to win the Intercontinental Championship with The Miz this time retaining the GWF Intercontinental Championship. March 2014, Jay Briscoe and Global Wrestling Federation parted ways for the first time since his debut in 2013.
