[edit] Background

Main article: Professional wrestling

Broken Bodies will feature professional wrestling matches that involved wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that play out on WIW's primary television programs, Rage and ShowDown. Wrestlers will portray heroes or villains as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.

On June 5, it was announced that Martin McAlmond would be returning to the company at SummberBash. On the July 9 episode of ShowDown, McAlmond's opponent was announced to be his brother-in-law Chris LaGreca.

At Justice for Brawl, Kevin McAlmond defeated Matt Borske and Chris LaGreca in a Triple threat match to retain the WIW World Championship. The following Wednesday on Rage, Mikhail Schmalzried defeated Craig Sandvig, Daniel Block and Mike Bartlett in a fatal four way elimination match to earn a match against McAlmond at SummerBash.

After Justice for Brawl, Kevin McAlmond retained the WIW World Championship keeping the championship exclusively to the Rage brand. On the July 29 episode of ShowDown, commissioner Dixie Finnegan and general manager Turf Finnegan created a new championship, the WIW Heavyweight Championship, announcing a 16-man tournament taking place starting that night on ShowDown with the finals of the match being contested to crown the inaugural WIW Heavyweight Champion at the SummerBash event.

At Justice for Brawl, Sari Pasma recruited former WIW Divas Champion Brenah Quinn as a mystery partner and the two defeated WIW Women's Champion Kaila Matteson and McKaulie Matteson in a Tag team match when Pasma pinned Kaila. This earned Pasma a title match against Kaila the following Wednesday on Rage, in which she again pinned Kalia to win the title. Kaila invoked her match clause two days later to face Pasma for the title in a rematch at SummerBash. The following week, during a confrontation between the two women, resulting in a mixed tag team match being made, where Kaila Matteson and RC Pearce defeated Pasma and Ryan Barnhart, with Kaila pinning Pasma. On the August 10 episode of Rage, Pasama defeated McKaulie Matteson and Axline in a handicap match, resulting in Matteson, Axline and Pearce being banned from ringside at SummerBash.

It was announced on July 31, 2016 via WIW's facebook that The Shark Killing Family would be returning to the promotion, The Sons (Clay and Gemma) challenged the family to a Six-man tag team match where if the Shepard's lost they would have to become not only exclusively ShowDown instead of Rage but become personal to the Sons, the Shepard's accepted, the match was later revealed for SummerBash as well as WIW also adding the stipulation that if the Shepard's win, not only do they take the Son's WIW Tag Team Championship shot, but Fin gets a WIW United Nations Championship as well.

On the July 27 episode of Rage, The Doomsday celebrated their title reign when The Varsity Club (Mike Bartlett and Ryan Wilson) attacked them, injurying Marc Beltran in the process. The following week on Rage, The Varsity Club futhered the injury by slamming Beltran shoulder first into the ring post with a steel chair wrapped around it, later that night The Sons (Chibs Telford and Opie Winston) and The Hoopers (Matt Hooper and Josh Hooper) brawled with the Varistiy Club when they tried to interferee in a no.1 contenders match. On August Brandon and Steve Britz were scheduled to defend the WIW Tag Team Championship against The Varsity Club (Mike Bartlett and Ryan Wilson) vs. The Sons (Chibs Telford and Opie Winston) and The Hoopers (Matt and Josh Hooper) in Fatal 4-Way tag team elimination match at SummerBash.

On August 13 it was announced that McKayla Maroney made her debut for the company as part of the pre-show panel before announcer that sometime in 2017 she would compete for WIW.
