The IWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship is a professional wrestling world tag team championship created and promoted by the American promotion IWE, defended on their Raw brand division. It is one of three male tag team championships among IWE's three main brands, along with the IWE Raw Tag Team Championship also on Raw and the NXT Tag Team Championship on NXT—the 2020 WWE Draft is currently in progress, which had moved the SmackDown Tag Team Championship from SmackDown to Raw. The current champions are.
Unveiled on the August 23, 2016 episode of SmackDown Live, it was created to be the counterpart title to the then-WWE Tag Team Championship, which became exclusive to Raw as a result of the 2016 IWE draft. That title was subsequently renamed after the crowning of the inaugural SmackDown Tag Team Champions, Heath Slater and Rhyno.

Following the reintroduction of the IWE brand extension and subsequent draft on July 19, 2016, IWE Tag Team Champions The New Day were drafted to Raw, leaving SmackDown without a tag team championship. Over the course of the following month, SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan stated that he wanted to build up the tag team division before introducing a championship. Immediately following SummerSlam on the August 23, 2016 episode of SmackDown Live, Bryan and SmackDown Commissioner Shane Matteson unveiled the IWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship and announced a tournament, which will culminate in a tag team match at Backlash to determine the inaugural champions.

† After Chad Gable suffered a kayfabe injury after defeating The Usos, American Alpha were removed from the final, and a match between The Usos and The Hype Bros was then set for Backlash, with the winners replacing them in the final.

As its name implies, the championship was established for the SmackDown brand. However, despite being a branded championship, the title is still eligible to switch brands during the annual IWE Draft.
