The card will include matches resulting from scripted storylines and have results predetermined by WIW on the Rage brand , one of WWE's two brand divisions. Storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television show Rage.
Announced by The Sports Arena on November 5, 2016, the main event of Winter Warzone will be a champion versus champion match: International Champion Dustin Simpson will face WIW World Champion Kevin McAlmond for the WIW World Championship. At Soul Survivor, McAlmond accidentally hit Simpson while attempting to hit Lynch, causing Simpson to be eliminated from the match.
On November 7, 2016, The Sports Arena also announced that Kooper McAlmond will face Matt Borske. At Soul Survivor, Borske attacked Kooper causing him to be eliminated from the match.
