Background
Like the previous year, the theme of Survivor Series is brand supremacy. With the exception of Raw's IWE Cruiserweight Championship (as it does not have a SmackDown counterpart), every champion of the Raw brand will face their counterpart of the SmackDown brand in non-title matches: the Universal Champion against the IWE Champion, the Intercontinental Champion against the United States Champion, the Raw Women's Champion against the SmackDown Women's Champion, and the Raw Tag Team Champions against the SmackDown Tag Team Champions. Two traditional Survivor Series elimination matches, one male match and one female match, pitting five of Raw's male and female wrestlers against five of SmackDown's male and female wrestlers, respectively, will also occur.
Storylines
The card will consist of matches resulting from scripted storylines, with results predetermined by IWE's writers on the Raw and SmackDown brands. Storylines are produced on IWE's weekly television shows, Monday Night Raw and SmackDown Live.
At Evolution, Ronda Rousey defeated Nikki Bella by submission to retain the Raw Women's Championship, while Becky Lynch defeated Charlotte Flair in a Last Woman Standing match to retain the SmackDown Women's Championship. The following night on Raw, a match between the two was scheduled for Survivor Series.
At Crown Jewel, KJ Styles defeated Samoa Simpson to retain the IWE Championship and Rob Lesnar defeated Braun Strowman to win the vacant Universal Championship. It was then announced that Lesnar and Styles would face each other at Survivor Series for the second year in a row as the two had faced off at the previous year's event.
