The National Football League playoffs for the 2014 season will begin on January 3, 2015, and end with Super Bowl XLIX on February 1 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.
Under the new U.S. TV broadcast contracts that take effect starting this season, television coverage will be slightly altered. The AFC Playoffs will be split between CBS and NBC. Each network will televise one AFC game in the first two rounds of the playoffs, with CBS holding exclusive rights to the AFC Championship game. The NFC playoffs will be televised mainly by Fox, which has rights to all NFC playoff games except for a single Wild Card game televised by ESPN. This will mark the first time an NFL Playoff game is aired on cable, as the ESPN family had aired all previous playoff contests on ABC. The game will be simulcast on a local over the air station in the primary markets of the competing teams. All games will be broadcast on Westwood One radio.
The playoffs will feature just the second team in NFL history to enter the playoffs with a losing record in a non-strike season with the Carolina Panthers winning the NFC South with a 7-8-1 record. The Wild Card round will feature two rematches in the AFC; the Baltimore Ravens and the Pittsburgh Steelers will meet for the third time this season and fourth time in the playoffs, while the Cincinnati Bengals and Indianapolis Colts will meet in a rematch from their Week 7 matchup, a 27-0 Colts victory.
On the final day of the regular season, the Seattle Seahawks became the first defending Super Bowl Champion to retain Home Field Advantage throughout the playoffs after having earned it in the previous season since the 1990 San Francisco 49ers.
