Superclash III is the 2nd annual Superclash professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by AEW, it will be held on June 22, 2014 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Background

Superclash III will feature professional wrestling matches involving different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that play out on AEW's television programs. Wrestlers portray heels or faces as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.

On May 11, Gunner won the 2014 Wrestle War match earning himself a AEW World Heavyweight Championship match at Superclash III, at the same event Samoa Joe and Chris Jericho became co-AEW World Heavyweight Champion's in the War Games match after making the former champion, CM Punk submit to a combination of the Walls of Jericho from Jericho and a Crossface by Samoa Joe. On June 9 on the special Concussion, Joe defeated Jericho to become the Undisputed AEW Champion, after the match The Shield attacked Joe, allowing Sandow to cash in the Money in the Bank contract to win the AEW World Heavyweight Championship, setting up Sandow vs. Gunner for the title at Superclash.

Since returning to AEW as the founder and owner, Shane McMahon has targeted various AEW Superstars including former AEW World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, Taz, AJ Styles. At Wrestle War, Shane McMahon teamed with Bray Wyatt, Samoa Joe and Chris Jericho to defeat Taz, CM Punk, AJ Styles and a participate that would be revealed at the Wrestle War PPV as Gunner on the same night the Investor was revealed to be The Rock. On an episode of Concussion it would be announced that The Rock would face Shane McMahon for complete ownership of AEW.

At Mayhem, Cactus Jack challenged Sterling James Keenan to a Hell in a Cell match and Sterling James Keenan returned to accept Cactus Jack's challenge for a Hell in a Cell match between Sterling James Keenan and the man that made Hell in a Cell famous, Cactus Jack.

AJ Lee will defend her AEW Starlets Championship against the winner of the second Queen of the Ring winner. On June 19 in the first round of the tournament Paige defeated Brie Bella, Cameron defeated Velvet Sky, Kaitlyn defeated ODB and in the final first round match Angelina Love defeated Kelly Kelly. The semifinal round is scheduled to take place on June 26 where Paige will face Kaitlyn and Cameron will battle Angelina Love.

Another match scheduled for the pay-per-view is a Tag team special challenge match with the AEW Tag Team Champions Daniel Bryan and Sami Zayn putting a open challenge to any tag team to face them for the titles. On the June 23 episode of Concussion The Miz announced himself to be one of the two men to challenge for the titles, his partner would be announced on the June 30 episode of Concussion.

On the June 30, 2014 episode of Concussion Randy Orton challenged Taz to a Career Threating match and Taz accepted. On the July 7, 2014 #CountdownToClash special episode of Concussion it was announced that if Taz were to beat Orton he would be added to the Rock vs. Shane McMahon match.

Another match announced for the Superclash pay-per-view is the Six-Starlets Lumberjill match between the re-emerging faction Elite Perfection (Candice Michelle, Maryse and Melina) against the faction called Diva Movement (Naomi, Nikki Bella and Eva Marie).

At previous Superclash events, AEW wrestlers competed for the AEW Championship contract. Superclash III has been titled to have the biggest Money in the Bank ladder match in the history of AEW. On the June 9, 2014 episode of Concussion, AEW would announce that Chris Hero, both Jay and Mark Briscoe, Willow, Cesaro and James Storm would all be in the Money in the Bank ladder match at Superclash. On the June 23 episode of Concussion, Booker T, Bad News Barrett, Homicide, Eddie Kongston would also be added to the match at the PPV. On the last episode of Concussion before Superclash Dolph Ziggler and Tyler Breeze were added to the Money in the Bank ladder match.

On the June 23 episode of Concussion during a segment with The Shield, Samoa Joe and the Usos attacked The Shield and announced a Six-Man tag team match between the Shield and the Tribe at the PPV, it would later be announced that the losing team would be forced to disband.

Also made for the Superclash pay-per-view is between the returning Triple H and Fandango.

Also announced on the June 23 episode of Concussion is a match for the AEW Starlets United States Championship with the champion, Eve Garcie defending the title against Gail Kim. On the same night Kim's bodyguard Lei’D Tapa viciously attacked Eve Garcie.

The preshow match for Superclash is between Adam Rose and Samuel Shaw, a feud sparked up between the two when Rose invited AEW ring announcer Christy Hemme on the party bus with the "Rosebuds" which infuriated Shaw leading to the match.
