The Last Stand (2014) will feature professional wrestling matches involving different wrestlers from pre-existing scripted feuds, plots, and storylines that develop on AEW's television programs. Wrestlers portrayed villains or heroes as they follow a series of events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches.
The main feud heading into the pay-per-view was World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk facing Samoa Joe in a Non-title Last Man Standing match. Punk has been feuding with the entire faction of the Tribe, on the January 27, 2014 episode of Concussion CM Punk and Colt Cabana defeated The Briscoe Brothers to win the AEW Tag Team Championships only to have The Usos later on in the night defeat Punk and Cabana to win the titles from them.
