Production
Background
The World War is an annual professional wrestling event that was previously produced every January by WIW since 1999. It is one of the promotion's five biggest events of the year, along with SuperBrawl, SummerBash, Soul Survivor, and Money in the Bank, referred to as the "Big Five". The concept of the event is based around the World War Rumble match, a modified battle royal in which the participants enter at timed intervals instead of all beginning in the ring at the same time.
From the event's inception in 1999 up through the 2024 event, the World War was held annually in late January. On June 26, 2024, WIW announced a partnership with the Montana Sports Corp. which would see the 2025 World War, as well as a future WrestleMania and a future SummerSlam, held at the Washington–Grizzly Stadium in Missoula, Montana. The date for the 27th annual World War was announced for Saturday, February 1, thus marking the first World War held outside of January. It will feature wrestlers from the Rage and ShowDown brand divisions and in addition to airing on traditional pay-per-view (PPV) worldwide, it will be available to livestream on WIW Network in the United States.
The World War match generally features 30 wrestlers and the winner traditionally earns a world championship match at that year's SuperBrawl. For 2025, the men and women can choose which world championship to challenge for at SuperBrawl XVII; the men can choose Rage's World Heavyweight Championship or ShowDown's Unified WIW World Championship, while the women have the choice between Rage's Women's World Championship and ShowDown's WIW Women's Championship.
Storylines
The event will include matches that result from scripted storylines. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednesday Night Rage and Friday Night ShowDown', being that ShowDown moves to Friday's when WIW holds a PPV on Saturday.
