The 2023 Money in the Bank is the 14th annual Money in the Bank professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event produced by the American promotion WIW. It will be held for wrestlers from the promotion's Rage and ShowDown brand divisions. The event will take place on Saturday, July 1, 2023, at AO Arena in Manchester, England. This will be the first Money in the Bank to be held outside of the United States as well as WIW's first major event to be held in Manchester, although WIW did hold an event in May 2002 in England.

Money in the Bank is an annual gimmick event, produced by the American promotion WIW since 2010, generally held between May and July. Along with SuperBrawl, World War, SummerBash, and Soul Survivor, it is considered one of the promotion's five biggest events of the year, referred to as the "Big Five". The concept of the event comes from WIW's established Money in the Bank ladder match, in which multiple wrestlers use ladders to retrieve a briefcase hanging above the ring. The briefcase contains a contract that guarantees the winner a match for a championship of their choosing at any time within the next year.

The event will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by WIW's writers on the Rage and ShowDown brands, while storylines are produced on WIW's weekly television shows, Wednsday Night Rage and Friday Night ShowDown, (which is usually on Saturdays, unless WIW holds a pay-per-view on Saturday).

Qualifying matches for the men's Money in the Bank ladder match began on the May 31 episode of Rage. Bradlee Woehl and Corbin Edwards became the first and the second qualified entrants by defeating Kody Baker and James Alexander, respectively. The next qualifying match occurred on the June 3 episode of ShowDown, where Zack Harding defeated Stephen Amell to qualify. The next qualifying matches occurred on the June 10 episode of ShowDown, where Dillon DeLaHunt and Jon Orthmeyer qualified by defeating Travis Capps and Eli Eason, respectively. The last qualifying matches occurred on the June 14 episode of Raw, where Kooper McAlmond and Jeremiah Lawrence qualified by defeating Daniel Gonzalez and Antony Speranza, respectively.

Qualifying matches for the women's Money in the Bank ladder match began on the June 3 episode of ShowDown, with Taryn Schultz defeating Ashley Boland to be the first qualified entrant. The next qualifying matches occurred on the June 7 episode of Rage, where Ali Richards, Jessica Lahr and Brenah McAlmond qualified by defeating Megan Zanto, Beatrice and Brittany Hiatt, respectively. The next qualifying matches occurred on the June 10 episode of ShowDown, where Ashley Holshue and Kristen Swingley qualified by defeating Jess Andriolo and Chantia Hilger. The next qualifying occurred on the June 14 episode of Rage, where Heavenlee Mcguire qualified by defeating Victoria Lehr.

On the June 7 episode of Rage, as Ryan Barnhart was being interviewed by Kody Baker on BakerTV, Baker introduced Miro Munoz as a surprise guest. Miro came to the ring with Jennipher Harper and started to mock Barnhart, saying he's made a terrible mistake by challenging Tyler Mane to a rematch after massacred by Mane at Night of Champions. Barnhart would retaliate by saying that Miro's father Richard Munoz made some terrible mistakes of which Miro was one. Miro then pretended to leave the ring, only to come back and slap Semmler in the face. The following week, Semmler challenged Miro to a match at Money in the Bank, which Harper accepted on his behalf.

On the May 10 episode of Raw, Kevin McAlmond defeated Chris Gomez in the semifinals of a tournament for the inaugural World Heavyweight Championship, which McAlmond ultimately won at Night of Champions on May 27. On the next episode of Rage, McAlmond was victorious in a tag team match against Pinnacle of Judgment memebers Gomez and Jeremiah Lawrence, after the match McAlmond was attacked by a fan from the crowd, which ended in a brawl between the two, in turn ended in the two being seperated by security and the fan being arrested. This led to a title match the following week between McAlmond and Lawrence, where McAlmond retained. After the match, Gamez and McAlmond came face-to-face until the "fan" attacked McAlmond again and another brawl bewteen the two was seperated by cops as well as new Rage wrestler, Heavenlee Mcguire, who yelled at the fan by name. On the June 14 episode, Gomez called out McAlmond and recalled how he had never been a world champion, due to the fact he once respected him, however the resepct was gone and he wanted and blamed McAlmond that that derailed his career to be a main event superstar. Gomez said he would do the same to McAlmonnd at Money in the Bank by taking away the World Heavyweight Championship from him. Before McAlmond accepted Gomez's challenge for his title, McAlmond was attacked by the fan, now known as Kenny Alsup, who challenge McAlmond for the title as well. Later that night, while McAlmond was in the trainers room, he accepted both Gomez and Alsup's challenge for the title at Money in the Bank.

[edit] Preliminary matches

The pay-per-view began with the men's Money in the Bank ladder match, featuring Jeremiah Lawrence, Bradlee Woehl, and Corbin Edwards, and Kooper McAlmond from Rage, Zack Harding, Dillon DeLaHunt, Jon Orthmeyer, Justin Hensen from ShowDown, and Chris Colfer. At the start of the match, all of the wrestlers took Colfer out of the ring. Colfer and Lawrence agreed to an alliance to take down the other participants. However, Priest ended the alliance quickly. Colfer performed a Frog Splash on Lawrence onto a ladder. Back in the ring, Butch took Nakamura down and applied a sleeper hold on Kooper on a bridged ladder, only for Woehl to break it up with a 450 splash. Lawrence performed his finisher on Colfer, Knight and Kooper double-suplexed Lawrence off the ladder, Colfer performed a Blockbuster on Harding, Woehl performed a Shooting Star Press on Colfer, and DeLaHunt performed a Phantom Driver on Woehl. Orthmeyer then performed a Moonsault from a ladder onto the crowd. With Woehl and Colfer on top of a ladder, Kooper tipped it over. On the top of the ladder, Orthmeyer snapped Lawrence's fingers, but was knocked off by Lawrence. Lawrence then fended off DeLaHunt, Edwards, and Hensen before performing a superplex from the top of the ladder on Harding. Finally, as Kooper was about to unhook the briefcase and win, Kenny Alsup (who was scheduled to face Kooper's cousin for the title later in the evening) interfered and pushed Kooper off the ladder and through another ladder, this allowed Lawrence to climb the ladder and unhook the briefcase to win the match.

Next, Sis Bates and Baylee Klingler defended the WIW Women's Tag Team Championship against Sarah Grobel and Lacie Brenton. Before the match, Montana Fouts made her debut and confronted Bates and Klingler about accompanying them to the ring and that agreed. Bates had control of Grobel until Grobel tagged in Brenton, who performed a Powerslam on Klingler for a nearfall. As Grobel attempted her finishing move, Bates countered into a German Suplex and applied a Clutch, but Grobel escaped. Shortly after tagging in Klingler, Fouts jumped onto the apron and turned on the defending champions and applied a Rear Clutch on Klingler before leaving. Afterwards, Grobel and Brenton performed double team combo to win the titles for a second time.

In the third match, Clay Bignell defended the Intercontinental Championship against Antony Speranza. During the match, Speranza landed on his feet during a German Suplex attempt, but tweaked his ankle. Speranza performed a Floating Speranza on Bignell for a nearfall. In the climax, Bignell performed a Powerbomb for a nearfall. Bignell then applied a half crab on the injured ankle and followed up with slaps to it, followed by a leglock to force Speranza to submit to retain the title. After the match, Quay Painter, in his first appearance since Night 2 of SuperBrawl XV, stared at Bignell. Painter then performed the Painter Kick on Bignell before standing tall with the International Championship belt.

After that, Ryan Barnhart took on Miro Munoz (accompanied by Jennipher Harper). In the climax, after Barnhart performed a Disaster Dawg on Munoz for a nearfall. Harper distracted Barnhart. Munoz tried to take advantage with his finisher, but Barnhart countered it with an Alabama Slam, and followed up with a Ryan Cutter following it up by hitting his finisher to win the match.

The fifth match was the women's Money in the Bank ladder match, featuring Ashley Holshue, Kristen Swingley, Jessica Lahr, and Taryn Schultz from ShowDown, Ali Richards, Chrissy Heffner, Beth Haegele, and Brenah McAlmond from Rage, and newcomer to WIW Heavenlee Mcguire. Holshue and Swingley ascended opposite sides of a ladder when Richards tipped it over. Richards then fended off Haegele and McAlmond before Heffner headscissored Richards into the corner. Richards and Mcguire were able to momentarily subdue Haegele and Heffner, and Schultz managed to use Heffner as a bridge between two ladders to climb the taller one. Mcguire performed a Moonsault off the ladder onto the crowd. Schultz leaped off a ladder onto Richards and Lair. Haegele and Heffner decided to double-team Richards and place a handcuff on one of her wrists, until Mcguire made the save. Richards and Mcguire cleared the announce table and sent Heffner over it. Richards and Mcguire then placed a ladder as a bridge between the ring apron and the announce table, Richards then performed a RichardsSlam on Heffner onto the ladder. Mcguire then turned on Richards and followed up with a Neckbreaker on Richards onto a ladder.

Haegele and Schultz climbed opposite sides of the ladder, with Schultz getting the upper hand after performing Code Red onto another ladder. As Swingley ascended the ladder, Holshue tipped it over. Holshue ascended the ladder, but Richards used the handcuffs to knock Holshue down. As Richards was closing in on the win, Swingley knocked her down and handcuffed Richards and Holshue's wrists together. Swingley then went to retrieve the briefcase but Mcguire came out of nowhere onto the ladder as they both feel with the briefcase in had, both would be announced as co-winners of the match, the first co-winners for the women's match and the second since 2021 event (which saw Kevin McAlmond co-win the match along with Marc Beltran).

The first main event of the night was Kevin McAlmond defending his World Heavyweight Championship against Kenny Alsup and Chris Gomez in a triple threat elimination match, it was later also for the WIW Reach for the Sky Championship.

In the second main event of the night, Jarid McAlmond (who was chosen by Monte to replace the injured Martin McAlmond) and Dylan McAlmond (with Monte McAlmond and Martin McAlmond) faced The McAlmonds (TJ McAlmond) and (Brad McAlmond) in a McAlmond Civil War tag team match.
