WrestleMania Backlash is a professional wrestling pay-per-view and IWE Network event produced by IWE for their Raw and SmackDown brand divisions. It is scheduled to take place on May 16, 2021, and will be broadcast from the IWE ThunderDome, hosted at the Yuengling Center in Tampa, Florida. It will be the 16th event in the Backlash chronology and will be WWE's first pay-per-view to present the ThunderDome from the Yuelling Center during the COVID-19 pandemic, following a four-month residency at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Florida.

Background
Backlash is a recurring pay-per-view (PPV) and IWE Network event that was established by IWE in 1999 (then known as the International Wrestling Federation). The event continued annually as the post-WrestleMania event until 2009, which was the final event until 2016. It was brought back that year following the reintroduction of the brand extension, where IWE again split its roster between the Raw and SmackDown brands where wrestlers are exclusively assigned to perform; the 2016 event also ended its previous tradition of being the post-WrestleMania pay-per-view. The event then continued annually until 2018 when it was replaced by Stomping Grounds the following year, but was reinstated in 2020. The 2021 Backlash had been scheduled for June 20, but during WrestleMania 37, it was revealed that Backlash would be held on May 16—switching dates with that year's Money in the Bank—and would be titled "WrestleMania Backlash," thus returning Backlash to its original role of being the post-WrestleMania PPV. It will be the 16th event in the Backlash chronology and feature wrestlers from the Raw and SmackDown brands.
