Backlash is a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) event and IWE Network event, produced by IWE for their Raw and SmackDown brand divisions. It is scheduled to take place on June 14, 2020. It will be the fifteenth event in the Backlash chronology and the first Backlash since 2018.

Background

Backlash is a recurring pay-per-view event that was established by IWE in 1999. The event continued annually until 2009, which was the final event until 2016. It was brought back that year following the reintroduction of the brand extension, where IWE again split its roster between the Raw and SmackDown brands, represented by the shows of the same name. The event then continued annually until 2018 as it was canceled and replaced by Stomping Grounds the following year, but was brought back for 2020. The 2020 event will be the fifteenth event in the Backlash chronology and feature wrestlers from the Raw and SmackDown brands.

Storylines

The show will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by IWE's writers on the Raw and SmackDown brands, while storylines are produced on IWE's weekly television shows, Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.
