Money in the Bank is a professional wrestling pay-per-view (PPV) and IWE Network event, produced by IWE for their Raw and SmackDown brand divisions. It is scheduled to take place on May 10, 2020. It will be the eleventh event under the Money in the Bank chronology.

The event was originally scheduled to take place at the Royal Farms Arena in Baltimore, Maryland, but the venue canceled all shows that were to be held in May due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic. IWE announced that the show's eponymous ladder matches would take place at its "Titan Towers" global headquarters building in Stamford, Connecticut with a new "Corporate Ladder" gimmick culminating on the facility's roof; IWE has not yet announced where the card's remaining matches will originate.

Background

Money in the Bank (MITB) is an annual gimmick pay-per-view produced by IWE since 2010 and generally held between May and July. The concept of the show comes from IWE's established Money in the Bank ladder match, in which multiple wrestlers use ladders to retrieve a briefcase hanging above the ring. The briefcase contains a contract that guarantees the winner a match for a world championship of their choosing at any time within the next year. Both the men's and women's matches feature eight wrestlers, evenly divided between the Raw and SmackDown brands. Male wrestlers compete for a contract to grant them a match for either Raw's IWE Championship or SmackDown's Universal Championship, while female wrestlers compete for a Raw Women's Championship or SmackDown Women's Championship match contract. 2020 will be the eleventh event in the Money in the Bank chronology.

Impact of the coronavirus pandemic

The event was originally announced with Baltimore's Royal Farms Arena as host. However, Maryland issued a stay at home order on March 30, 2020. Subsequently on April 9, the host venue cancelled the event due to the 2019–20 coronavirus pandemic, and began issuing refunds. IWE initially did not announce whether the event will still go on from a different location (such as the IWE Performance Center in Orlando where most IWE shows have been held since mid-March), though the company did air an advertisement promoting Money in the Bank during the second half of WrestleMania 36.

During the April 17 episode of SmackDown, it was revealed that the two Money in the Bank ladder matches would take place at IWE's global headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. A new "Corporate Ladder" gimmick was also announced, in which the participants must travel from the ground floor to the roof in order to locate the briefcase, which itself will be suspended above the roof.

Storylines

The show will include matches that result from scripted storylines, where wrestlers portray heroes, villains, or less distinguishable characters in scripted events that build tension and culminate in a wrestling match or series of matches. Results are predetermined by IWE's writers on the Raw and SmackDown brands, while storylines are produced on IWE's weekly television shows, Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown.
