Money in the Bank is a professional wrestling pay-per-view event, produced annually in mid-July by IWE. The company regards it as one of the flagship events of IWE, as it is the only Pay-Per-View (PPV) event named after an annual WrestleMania match, the Money in the Bank ladder match. The Money in the Bank match debuted at WrestleMania 21 in 2005 and since that time the winner of that contest can cash in a briefcase that contains a contract for a World title match anytime in the next 12 months. From 2005-2010, at WrestleMania, there was only one Money in the Bank ladder match per year, and the winner could contest for either brand's world title; beginning with the advent of the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, however, there are two annual matches (one for Raw, one for SmackDown), with the winner only able to contend for his brand's world title, and the matches now take place at the Money in the Bank event rather than WrestleMania.
The event was first produced in 2010, and a second event took place in 2011.
