Appearance

Sydney’s face usually wouldn’t stand out in a crowd, but his expressive brow and constantly changing lips fill it with life. He would be attractive if his face held still for an instant, but it’s often contorted into almost cartoon-like expressions. His brown eyes are often glittering with a love of life, and his thin lips are often stretched into a smile.

He has thick, light brown hair that he lets hang in a natural part in the middle, though it looks far from neat. His hair comes down to his eyebrows in the front but it cut shorter in the back. Sydney has a small frame that hasn’t caught up with his height, giving him the impression of being lean but not bony.

His clothes are usually slightly unkept. His tie is probably loose and his shirt is probably coming untucked. He wears sneakers (chucks, not the American "balloons") as often as he can get away with. His dress is untidy, but not to the point of slobby. Usually his clothes are either too big or too small. His wardrobe consists mostly of sweaters dating back to Harold Wilson's term in office (1964-1970, you lazy bums), T-shirts and jeans, in addition to his school uniform.

Personality

Sydney has slightly maniac-depressive tendencies, which makes him unpredictable and a bit unstable. He’s a bit on the clumsy side, and doesn’t have the most common sense. He's very animated and often appears to get over-excited or passionate about trivial things. He can be mischievous at times but deep down, though, he’s good natured and always regrets it if he hurts somebody by accident.

During mania Sydney is a dynamo of energy. He is up to do anything as long as it’s fast-paced and exciting. He treats the world almost like a game, and will break the rules with a smile on his face. He would never turn down a dare. He often feels that he is unstoppable or invincible, and uses this energy towards pranks. He’s optimistic, friendly and a little eccentric. He may be aware of what’s considered normal, but simply not care if something else suits his fancy. He’s bluntly honest and slightly invasive of personal space. He’s also constantly looking for food to fuel his high-energy antics. It seems that most often Sydney is in this state.

The other side of Sydney is his depressive side. After all the energy of mania is burnt out, he withdraws. He becomes abnormally quiet and moody. He becomes annoyed with people quickly, and prefers to be alone. He doesn’t feel like going out and doing anything. Nothing seems to please him. He gets tired and generally sad about trivial things. In this state he likes to eat sweets to make himself feel better.

Life and Times

History

Sydney's mother was a muggle Londoner and his father was a Scottish wizard. They separated shortly after his birth, when his mother found out about his father being a wizard. Sydney was raised by his mother, in London, and only saw his father a few times a year. Despite their distance, Sydney adored his father. However, his parents kept his father's abilities secret.

When Sydney was eight, they couldn't keep the wizarding world secret any longer. Strange occurrences started popping up. His room started rearranging itself at night. He started burping up large quantities of bubbles after drinking soda. Concerned, his mother phoned his father and they informed him that he was a wizard. Now that the beans were spilled, they couldn't contain him in the Muggle world. Knowing that in two years he would be sent off to study magic anyway, his mother stopped trying to shelter him and sent him to live with his father in Scotland.

Two years later, as expected, he received his letter to Hogwarts. The sorting hat deliberated for a few moments about whether to sort him into Hufflepuff or Gryffindor, but gave a distinct conclusion of Gryffindor. Despite spending half of his life with wizards, Sydney is still rather fond of some Muggle culture, and he can often he heard humming a Muggle tune.

If you did a deep investigation into his former years at Hogwarts then you would simply find a long list of pranks and odd incidents he's carried out.

Family

Sydney's mother is a muggle still living in London. She raised him as a young child, but magic tends to weird her out, so he refrains from spending too much time there, lest he crave to do a simple spell or two. She has been dating, making very sure that her boyfriends are not wizards.

Ian Morris is Sydney's father. He is a Scottish wizard who owns a small sporting goods store. He is still single, and a Quiddich enthusiast. Sydney spends most of his vacation time with him. How hygienic it is for two guys to live in a messy flat is still to be determined.

Sydney is descended from the Ambercrombie family so is the second cousin to Professor Beckett Rhys. This may explain their resemblance.

Relationships

Sydney lives by the phrase "friends until proven enemies", (even though trust like this gets him into trouble). He doesn't hold grudges and never judges people before he's had a long talk with them. Seriously, someone would have to to spit in his eye and punch him in the stomach before he genuinely starts disliking him or her. However, since he's friendly with everyone he doesn't really have a set of 'best friends' just a set of 'people who tolerate him the most often'. He doesn't often seek out deeper relationships, but it doesn't mean he isn't capable of them.

His best friends are:

  • Leon Durand, who tends to take advantage of Sydney's trusting nature, but still enjoys pulling off pranks together.
  • Carson Greer, who is his long time family friend and fellow beater.
  • Amaryllis Noircroix, one of the few people that understands his off-beat thinking, yet lately she has been acting hostile
  • Professor Sergio Damiano, the charms professor who mirrors Sydney's passion and craziness

The few people he really cannot get along with are

Quiddich

Sydney is on the Gryffindor Quiddich team as a beater. He's not a bad flier, he's just a reckless and sporadic flier. Graceful is NOT a good word to describe his flight. He zips around, spins about and stops abruptly while in the air, not unlike the way he moves on the ground. Despite his erratic flight pattern, he has complete control over the broom, and flying is intuitive (hence he flies the way he walks). His swing isn't particularly strong, but he's often reckless and isn't afraid of chasing down a bludger.

His favorite team is the Montrose Magpies

Academics

Sydney is not particularly a star pupil, nor is he terrible. Generally he excels in some areas and bombs others. Charms is by far his best subject, excelling beyond average classroom material. Potions is his worst subject. Though he tries his best, he does not have the pateince and attention to detail to do well in the subject.

Sydney is taking Care For Magical Creatures, Charms, Transfiguration, Muggle Studies, and Herbology at the N.E.W.T level.
