Tartarus Initiative

From Hyfenwiki

The Tartarus Initiative was a project, started on December 23, 2233, by the Freikorps. It's purpose was to manipulate life, starting it and then stimulating various centers of the brain with various types of radiation in order to enhance physical and mental capacities.

Trials

There were 13 trials in the Tartarus Initiative, each with a different approach. Trial 1 was the control. The Freikorps Science Corp (FSC) didn't add any radiation to Trial 1, so they could compare progress. Trial 2 experimented with terahertz radiation, shot at the thalamus, to increase sensory reception. Trial 3 used terahertz radiation again, this time directing them towards the muscles of the developing fetus, to attempt to increase muscular strength. Trial 4 directed terahertz radiation at both, to see what that did. Trial 5 experimented with x-rays, shooting them at the thalamus. Trial 6 shot x-rays at the muscles of the fetus. Trials 7-9 dealt with alpha radiation, and trials 10-13 dealt with gamma radiation. Trial 13, shooting gamma radiation at both the thalamus and developing muscles, was the one that gave the most bountiful fruits. Experiments 13.00 to 13.36 developed fine, though it was either-or. Either the thalamus was superdeveloped, or their muscles were. In experiment 13.37, though, both developed, and the result was a 'Super-Agent from Hell.' Experiment 1337 was released from the test tube into the real world on September 15, 2239.

Stimulant

The FSC gave each experiment a growth stimulant at a different time in development. The purpose of the stimulant was to advance physical and mental growth, then, at a certain age, a growth depressant was given, to keep the experiments at top physical condition for a very long time.

Cancellation

On August 31st, 2263, the Tartarus Initiative was deemed a failure by a special meeting of the General Staff. As a result, all funding was cut, all research materials archived and support facilities were repurposed. (most to Armoured Weapons Development Lab-R) The cause of the failure is often attributed to the lack of mental conditioning given to the sole "successful" test subject, Experiment 13.37. As a result, 1337 started showing signs of megalomania and demonstrated rampant insubordination and incompetence.

In August 2263, 1337 disobeyed direct orders from Field Marshal Holt and attempted to instigate a rebellion against the Freikorps. Luckily for the organization, his incipient madness had become rampant, causing him to make a myriad of stupid mistakes, and was easily captured. On August 30th, 1337 was dishonourably discharged from the Freikorps and his security clearance revoked. Only an intervention by Fleet Admiral Stormraider averted a firing squad.
