Personality
He's a pretty cheerful person all of the time and believes that there is good deep down in everyone. However, he’s not the kind that will tolerate getting walked on. If he feels threatened or upset, he isn’t afraid to show that the timid kitten is really a lion in disguise. Allen's out to change the world and it doesn't matter if it's through a large of small venue - he'll do it any way he can. He'll bear the burden for anyone and wouldn't even dream of asking for anything in return. He’s the kind of nice, polite person that would be willing to give you the shirt off of his back if he thought for even a moment that it would help you out in any way. While he tries not to cut people down, himself, he will let people know when they’ve taken things a step too far.
Though his life hasn’t been the easiest, he doesn’t let things get him down. He puts faith into the belief that if he simply keeps walking that things will be better down the road. He’ll push himself far beyond his limits for his friends and loved ones without hesitation. However, one of his major flaws is that he doesn’t think about himself first – he puts others ahead of him.
Allen’s a very private person and tends to hide certain aspects about himself. He’s also very self conscious about his white hair, though he tries not to let it show. He still manages to smile as he walks on, but he hides his cards well, refusing to show them to the rest of the world.
He’s still a teenager, after all, and is prone to being reckless and acting without thinking. He still maintains a certain innocence and even some naivety in wanting to save everyone that he can. Deep down he knows that he can’t change everything, but he still tries.
While he often offers a shoulder to lean on and a caring soul for one to stock their trust in, he isn’t so open, himself. He closes himself off, letting people in only so far. Aside from his adopted father, he has given no one his complete trust. Perhaps this will change over time as he grows closer to people and builds tight-knit bonds.
Background
Growing up was a bit rough on the kid, but he always remained grateful for what he had. He was an orphan who was adopted by a kind man named Mana who taught him many things. For the first time Allen actually felt happy and he would never forget the lessons that Mana had taught him. Recently, his father fell ill and sent him to live with someone named ‘Uncle Marian’. Allen was a little unsure of the whole thing, but went along with it as it was in everyone’s best interest at the time. Needless to say, while ‘Uncle Marian’ is probably not the best person to be looking after a kid, Allen pretty much takes care of the needs and manages on his own, all while remaining pretty positive and sometimes downright frighteningly cheerful.
In Hinamizawa (Updated Per-Cycle)
Cycle 1: Forms a friendship with Kururu. After making several promises to try and help, he ended up being killed by Suzu.
Cycle 2: Spent a day or so sleeping on Yuuri's couch (where he'll eventually become a fixture). After some back and forth conversation with Matt, he ended up finally learning how to correctly set up a tent. Allen spoke with Rika and was warned about his impending death. During the Festival, he met Saralegui and the two walked off together, talking, only to ultimately be killed by Takano.
Cycle 3: Share some friendly rivalry/banter with Ryuuji. Shares some wonderful time with Haine. Spends a day as Senel; nobody seems to notice. Eventually shifts to L5!Allen and scuffles with Ryuuji; kills Tifa, then Naminé, and eventually himself. (Spends the rest of the cycle cheerily handing out cyanide cookies with frosting and chocolate cake with vanilla frosting laced with arsenic in the 'afterlife'.)
Cycle 4: Spent most of the cycle sending Mr. Despair into despair. Had plenty of pleasant conversations with Haine. Adventures ensured. Agreed to report back to Mr. Gavin on Despair-sensei's actions. Speaking of Despair-sensei, the man gave Allen a black duck that he affectionately named 'The Millenium Earl', or just 'Earl' for short. Earl had been bothering Despair-sensei so he had given him to Allen telling him he could find the square root of him. When Allen had asked if he could adopt the duck, of course it had been a 'yes.' More friendly banter with Ryuuji. He also met with Gunter von Christ and now has been known to stop by his residence every now and then for some conversation. During the festival, he met Ema Skye and became quite fascinated with her and her work. She taught him how to dust for fingerprints and other useful skills. Later, he meets with Ryuuji and Colette and they explore the warehouse and find the body of the Queen (Ema). Or, at least, they find pieces. Allen has a newfound fear of crows now.
Cycle 5: Oh where to begin... There's always the usual banter with Ryuuji. He was reunited with Rinali and Komui Lee and suddenly life in Hinamizawa was so much better. When the typhoon hit Hinamizawa, Allen had snuck out of school in favour of checking it out and ultimately found himself trapped in a hotel room with one Shuichi Shindou, who was in town to perform at the Festival. Aside from that, he found Majiru Itoshiki (or, rather, Majiru found him one night after the typhoon) and he pretty much adopted the boy into his home, giving him a place to stay. This didn't go over too well and Allen and Despair-sensei argued about it, came to an agreement, argued again, found another agreement, then Allen found himself being questioned at the festival by one Officer Jade Curtiss about child abduction. Needless to say, this didn't sit well with Allen as he felt quite betrayed, especially since he thought that Despair-sensei and he had come to a pretty amicable agreement as both seemed happy. Speaking of the festival, he spent the festival with Majiru and Rinali and even spent some time with Ryuuji and Shuichi. After placing an ad for a positive adult role model (and ripping it back down) he picked up L/Ryuuzaki as the man had been interested in the position. This, of course, made Allen quite happy. Somewhere during the cycle he also gave Senel the day off and spent a day at Ryuuji's cooking in Senel's place (...and making up recipes as he went along but hey... nobody was killed so that's success enough). Once it was realized that people were going crazy, he vowed to help Ryuuji and Suzaku. He also promised them that he'd be careful and make it back alive, but failed to do so as he met up with Despair-sensei. He wanted to bring Despair-sensei with them, but it was realized too late that he was one of the ones under the 'curse' and, ultimately, Allen was no match for him and was killed after being choked with a rope. (He was then also made into a tree decoration.)
Relationships
Lulu - BFF. Forever and ever and ever.
Kururu Sumeragi - Close friends.
Matt - ...friends.
Namine - He considers her a very good friend.
Yuuri Shibuya - Allen has been known to sleep on the couch at Yuuri's house every now and then whenever he needs a place to stay for a few days.
Senel Coolidge - They're secret BFFs.
Otogi_Ryuuji - Friends, occasional friendly rivals in games; share a not!love with one another
Haine_Otomiya - Good friends, met in cycle 3
Rinali Lee - A very close, dear friend he met back in England. He cares deeply for her.
Komui Lee - Rinali's older (and very protective) brother. Allen is quite fond of him, though he sometimes scares the boy.
Itoshiki_Majiru - The nephew of Despair-sensei who is now living with Allen. While probably not the brightest of ideas, at least Allen isn't suicidal?
Random Facts
- Has sometimes been known to wear a hood or hat to hide his hair as he still really hasn't come to terms with it. However, he'd never consider dying it.
- He possesses a perfect win-loss streak at cards (poker in particular) though this is due to him being quite the master cheater. He would probably win if he played an honest game, but won't do so as he doesn't want to break his perfect record.
- Allen misses Britain a lot, but has slowly been adjusting to life in Hinamizawa. It's the friends that he's made that help him feel more at home and welcome.
- The man that he lives with isn't really a relative at all, like he often tells people. Cross Marian is a friend of Mana Walker's, and had always said that if he needed anything, that Mana could count on him. Unfortunately, Cross isn't very reliable and often leaves Allen alone for weeks on end.
- Timcanpy (or Tim, for short) is a toy that was given to him by Cross. He pretty much adopted the thing as his best friend and takes him many places, often talking to him and referring to him as if he was real. Sometimes Tim can be found attached to his hair.
- During Cycle 4 he came into ownership of a black duck that he lovingly named 'The Millenium Earl'. Of course, the duck's name is often shortened to simply 'Earl.' The duck is from Despair-sensei and Allen is still determined to find the square root of it.
