Well considering its basically just you and me we are limited in man power in what we can produce. With that in mind I was thinking of just starting with a demo. However my main aim is to create pratical game designs even if we don't create an actual playable game demo.
There are a two types of graphic engines:
- Open source 3D engine
- Sprite based engine (sprites are like Secret of Mana type graphics)
Considering we both lack in graphic creation skills, creating magic effects like fireball is going to prove difficult. So that's why I thinking focus on the actual design and I will try to create code for a demo as best as I can.
If we can reuse graphics from existing game that would be sweet. I come across Spring the other week which is Total Annihilation clone that originally used the TA graphics files.
Some style elements of RPG:
- Birds eye (eg. Secret of Mana)
- First person (eg. The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion)
- Turn based (eg. Final Fantasy)
- Real time (eg. Secret of Mana)
