The Pursuers of Immaculate Purity

From Flight From Darkness

The Pursuers of Immaculate Purity, better known as the Purists, are a group of hardline Immaculate fundamentalists. They follow several controversial beliefs, including the superiority of Dragonblood over all others, and that all Anthema should be executed with out question. Several members have been arrested (or hospitalized) for harassing Celestial Exalts and their supporters, and many more are suspected of several acts of vandalism and sabotage related to the above, though there is no proof.

[edit] Background

The Pursuers of Immaculate Purity trace their roots to a group of the same name from Lookshy. Among the Lookshyian survivors were a small number of the original Purists. The most influential of these was Teresu Gido (Scroll of Exalts pg104), who was outside of the Dream on one of his hunting trips. As the second oldest surviving Dragonblood on the Dream, as well as being an experienced politician, Gido quickly became one of the most influential members in the Lookshy community on board the Dream. His heroic actions during the The Reaver Plague, defending a group of children form the swarming Reavers, further cemented his status. Following the Dreams exodus from Creation, he became known as the second most powerful member of the Last Legion, and the foremost follower of the Imperialist school of though. He was constantly on the forefront of advocating for greater power for the Last Legion, with his proposals become more extreme as time went on. His position as a sohei and his conservatism also made him a focus for disruptive and disgruntled members of the Immaculate Faith. It is from this group that Gido formed The Pursuers of Immaculate Purity. They quickly became a disruptive force on the Dream, clashing with the other groups on the Dream at regular intervals.

[edit] Present

The Immaculates hold widespread support throughout the Last Legion, particularly amongst the Dragon-Blood (accounting for almost a fifth of the total Dragon-Blood under Lookshy), though membership is far more limited: most of the Legion is not religious enough to classify themselves as a member of this party. Nevertheless, Gido is also considered the leader of the Imperialists, and no one is quite sure how deeply the two factions are intertwined.

Outside of the Last Legion, only amongst the Orphans do the Immaculates have any true sway. The rest of the Dreams inhabitants tend to view them with disgust, hatred and more than a little fear. There have been multiple violent clashes with the Immaculates and tensions between them and the rest of the Dream have been escalating to near the breaking point. It is only a matter of time before something breaks between the two sides.

For now, most members have retreated to their fortified temple in the middle of the Blue Plate. Only the Dragon-Bloods of the order are commonly seen these days.
