[edit] Personnel File: Burning Flute

Searing Strings is a demonblooded musician. He is 22 years of age and has Restricted Security Clearance.

[edit] Description:

Burning Flute has coffee-colored skin and dark eyes. He is always (ALWAYS!) accompanied by his identical twin brother, Searing Strings. Both wear their dark hair cut short, and both favor simple grey clothing. They generally carry cases for their instruments (a shamisen and a flute), and finish each other's sentences in casual conversation. They both have a disturbing tendency to act as a single organism: absentmindedly brushing hair away form each other's faces, feeding each other without looking where the fork is going, and even scratching each other's itches. They prefer the word "we" to the word "I." See attached image and video.

[edit] Personality:

Burning Flute has been examined and deemed fit for duty by the Chief Medical Officer. Notable personality traits include asexuality, an obsessive and crippling love for his brother (they had to be forcibly separated for their medical examination, and were both obviously deeply uncomfortable when more than a few feet from each other), a paralyzing fear of demons, and a fascination with music, language, and mathematics. Both brothers are astounding musical prodigies, capable of composing and playing duets together that would warm the hearts of the cruelest demon princes.

[edit] Security Profile:

The Twins have admitted (without being asked to do so) to the Security Corps that they are both demonbloods, born of a master flutist and Zsofika the Kite Flute. They have no useful powers other than their music, and generally keep to themselves. They've worked out a private language with each other based on musical cues and touch, and they have an obvious fear and hatred of all things demonic. It is advised that they be kept away from any vital systems just to be safe, but they're not considered a serious threat. The Security Corps keeps the details of their heritage private at their request.

The Twins were born in Paragon, and both bear the mark of the Perfect on their hands. In the event of an attack by agents of the Ebon Dragon, it is recommended that they be eliminated: there is a remote possibility that the Perfect is alive and suborned by the enemy, in which case they are a liability.

  • Extremely talented musician

[edit] Storyteller Only:

The Twins are children of Zsofika the Kite flute, and they are powerful demonbloods. They have inherited their affinity for music from both parents (their father was a virtuoso who earned the Kite Flute's temporary adoration through music), but they have also inherited their mother's affinity for the hunt. They fled Paragon after the Kite Flute came to the city to claim them (destroying many lives and people in the process), and they're still running: the Kite Flute bears children with mortals for the sole purpose of creating mortals that are interesting prey.

Under extreme emotional duress (or when chasing someone or something they fervently desire to catch), each of the Twins is capable of transforming into one of the Hounds of Zsofika: they drop to all fours, their forms lengthen to resemble huge greyhounds, and they grow razor-sharp fangs and talons. They communicate with each other through strange sonic whistles and deep thrumming sounds, and generally explode into deadly violence. In this form they do not have control of themselves, and will pursue anything that looks like it's fleeing them with the intent to pin it down and devour it. They'll use instinctive pack-tactics to that end. If there's nothing to chase and they've already exhausted their violent outburst, they'll change back into themselves, exhausted, docile, and trembling with horror at the memories of being turned against their will into slavering demonic beasts.

The twins are aware of their transformations and generally avoid situations which would induce them. One of the reasons they're in constant physical contact with each other is to reassure and comfort one another.

The Black Cartel has recently discovered the Twins' secret (that they're demonbloods, not what they can do) and is blackmailing them: forcing them to play gigs for free and to spy on their clients. The twins are trying not to get too afraid or angry over the Cartel's behavior. The Cartel, for its part, thinks the Twins are probably related to an Angyalkae because of their astounding musical skill. They are not prepared to deal with hellhounds that can tear through steel like silk.
