He's the son of former professional wrestler "Soulman" Rocky Johnson and grandson of "High Chief" Peter Maivia, who was also a professional wrestler.

After only a few weeks of signing a contract with DXX The Rock united with Samoa Joe to formed the Nation of Domination and to feud with the dominant nWo, in what was a memorable feud. The Rock and Samoe Joe would become dominant tag team champions, until the day where The Rock threw his tag title off of a bridge and left.
