  • 20th - Pollards Hill: local Swifts (4) returned at last - 12 days late (MJN)
  • 20th - South Norwood Lake: Red Kite 10:35am N/NW circled over lake for about 45 seconds then drifted S/SW, 3 Mute Swan, 2 Greylag Geese, Great Crested Grebe (on nest) 2 Green Woodpecker, 3 Great Spotted Woodpecker, Nuthatch (at nest feeding young) 4 Common Swift, 2 House Martin, 1 Grey Wagtail, 7 singing Blackcap, 6 singing Chiffchaff, c8 House Sparrow, (John Watson)
  • 20th - South Norwood CP: Pair each of Little and Great Crested Grebes still present. Parrot/parakeet with a short stumpy tail flew over - any thoughts on this one (Senegal Parrot)? (JB)
  • 19th - Park Hill, 10+ Swifts over Minster Drive (Romney Tansley)
  • 18th - Grey Heron over Croydon Parish Church, Old Town flying towards the south end of Croydon (Simon Harris)
  • 18th - Sparrowhawk hunting over Coulsdon (David Hayes)
  • 17th - Riddlesdown (corner behind Attwood School) 2 Willow Warblers, Whitethroat, several Blackcaps, 2 Chiffchaffs and 2 Song Thrushes all singing. (Gill Flinn)
  • 16th - Sanderstead-1 Pied Wagtail carrying food on roof of Waitrose (not in a carrier bag!)-MJN
  • 16th - Coulsdon: Whitethroat and blackcap holding territory nearby, willow warbler singing briefly, Red Kite drifting slowly south. (David Hayes)
  • 15th - 7+ Swifts over Duppas Hill garden + 1 Song Thrush, 1 Rose Ringed Parakeet and 1 singing Goldcrest (SH)
  • 15th - Riddlesdown (CofL area): Great Spotted Woodpecker taking food to nest; 7 singing Blackcaps; 2 Whitethroats; 2 Chiffchaffs; 2 Goldcrests and 5 Song Thrushes singing; 2 Mallards, 1 Sparrowhawk and 5 Swifts flying over; 2 Collared Doves. 26 species in all. (Gill Flinn)
  • 15th - South Norwood CP: 1 Great Crested Grebe, Canada Goose, Tufted Duck, House Sparrow, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Whitethroat, Swift, Swallow, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Song Thrush, LT Tit, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Reed Warbler, Kestrel, Great Spotted Woodpecker (Dave Thrussell)
  • 15th - Sanderstead: AT LAST 5+ Swifts screaming around Briton Hill Road - 10 days late. Also 3+ House Martins at a breeding site in Sanderstead village (none at second site, though). Family party of Mistle Thrushes at Sanderstead Pond. (JB)
  • 15th - Riddlesdown: 10+ Skylarks, pair of Linnets, 2 Meadow Pipit, 2 Bullfinches at different locations, male Peregrine flying north. (JB)
  • 14th - Riddlesdown (Croydon's area): Peregrine seen flying from direction of quarry to circle upwards over Kenley valley before disappearing at about 8.30am; 25+ Starlings and 50+ Jackdaws feeding in field above quarry; 2 Swallows; 5 Skylarks; 5 Whitethroats (incl. 2 singing in newly fenced area) and 2 Bullfinches heard.   • 12th - South Norwood Lake: pair Great Crested Grebe, 12 Tufted Duck, 2 Cormorant, 2 Herring Gull, pair Collared Dove, 1m Sparrowhawk, c30 Swifts, 2 House Martin, 2 Green Woodpecker, Great Spotted Woodpecker (at nest feeding young) 1 Pied Wagtail, 2 Song Thrush, 3 singing Blackcap, 2 singing Chiffchaff, pair Nuthatch (at nest feeding young)4 House Sparrow,(John Watson)
  • 11th - South Norwood CP: Pair of Great Crested Grebes with nest, at least 1 Little Grebe, a juvenile Heron being mobbed constantly by a crow was later joined by an adult and started begging for food! At least a dozen Swifts and a single Swallow flying low over the lake. (JB)
  • 11th - Waddon Ponds: at least 3 Little Grebes including a pair at nest. 3 Herons flew in - 2 quickly left after being harried by a Crow, but the 3rd stayed around being constantly mobbed by the crow. (JB)
  • 9th - Croydon Crematorium area (9am): 1 singing Garden Warbler and Common Whitethroat; 1 female Sparrowhawk (Gavin Hawgood)
  • 9th - Thornton Heath Recreation Ground : Great Spotted Woodpecker 2, Stock Dove 2, Goldcrest 1, Song Thrush 1, Blackcap 1 (D BENTON)
  • 8th - Riddlesdown: Tawny Owl fledglings 2 and adult 1 seen in Combe Wood just behind the car park, pishing just after sunset. Still there on the 10th. Several singing Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs, and 1 displaying Whitethroat seen or heard on Dawn Chorus walk. (Gill Flinn)

  • 4th - Brickfields Meadow. One Reed Warbler singing. (JB)
  • 4th - South Norwood CP: 1 Turtle Dove flew north ca18:10, 1 Common Sandpiper, pair of Greylag, dozens of Swifts over lake, steady passage of Swallows, pair of Great Crested Grebes (on nest), pair of Little Grebes still present, at leas one pair of Stock Doves. Several singing Reed Warblers, Whitethroats, Blackcaps and Chiffchaffs. (JB)
