(JB) [Was this part of a much more widespread movement - I found the following entry on a Hampshire bird news website - " 85 Lesser Redpoll Fleet Pond 10:00 Total moving NW & NE in 3 hours. Strictly speaking 'redpoll sp' but nevertheless a good movement."]

  • 26th - Addington (fields by Kent Gate Way): Mixed flock of corvids with 50+ Jackdaws, 40+ Carrion Crows and 6 Rooks (possibly the highest count in Croydon for many years), 300+ Woodpigeons with a few Stock Doves and Feral Pigeons, 40+ Chaffinches with 2 male Bramblings (best viewed from public footpath leading up from main road where Kent Gate Way becomes Addington Road), 3 Pheasants (JB)

  • 6th - Thornton Heath: In my garden a male Sparrowhawk tried to catch a bird off the feeders which I was refilling at the time the Sparrowhawk was no more then 3 metres away, also 2 Stock Doves, Coal tit 2, Chaffinch 2, and Grey Wagtail as a fly over (D Benton)

  • 6th - Chepstow Rise: 21 Waxwings feeding on Cottoneaster at north end, though mobile. Last seen around 8.30am but birds almost certainly in the area still. Also 4 Redpoll over Park Hill Rise and many Siskins. (Alan Pearson)

  • 5th - Chepstow Rise: 12 Waxwings present until 7.55am at least. Pleasant walk to collect the paper also included singing Siskins, 2 Redpoll over, Green and Great-Spotted Woodpeckers, Nuthatch, flock of around 20 Redwing in subsong (latter just east of Lloyd Park play area). 20 Waxwings present again 3.30-4.25pm.
