  • 31st - Fryston Ave, Croydon: 22 Waxwings feeding on Rose hips from 3.25-3.45 (P Phillips)
  • 31st - South Norwood Lake: 161+ Black-headed ulls (incl one with a metal ring), 24+ Tufted Ducks, 16+ Moorhens, 6 Common Gulls, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 2 Herring Gulls, 4 Cormorants (one of which was sinensis type), 40+ Starlings seen at two different parts (and could easily have been separate flocks), 2 Mistle Thrush. Also one of the Canada Geese had a BTO ring - managed to read 6 out of 7 digits. Keep an eye for it and please try to read the ring number fully as I would love to track down its origin. (JB)

  • 30th - South Croydon: 25+ Waxwings feeding in bush by front door of a private house in Selsdon Road (near Upland Road) - appear to have been in the same general area since 13th Jan at least.   • 26th - Pittville Gardens, South Norwood (9-10am): BGBW resulted in a very disappointing 9 species (incl Goldcrest), almost entirely due to the major Network Rail "vegetation" clearance being effected along the adjacent railway embankment (wrong kind of leaves apparently!) (GH)

  • 26th - Sanderstead (Briton Hill Road): BGBW enlivened by a female Blackcap trying to see off all comers from a feeder. Also 1 Goldcrest. (JB)
  • 26th - Selsdon Road, South Croydon; 8.50: 3 Waxwings on television aerial. The birds think it's spring in Melville Avenue with Green Woodpecker calling; lots of Blue and Great Tit activity and flock of 6 Jackdaws enthusiastically chasing each other. 4 Fieldfares over Castlemaine Ave. (AJP)

  • 13th - Walk along Wandle Trail from Croydon to Carshalton and back (12.30-4.30pm) included 2 Peregines central Croydon; Grey Wagtail and 2 Egyptian Geese (Wandle Park) Kingfisher (heard) and Little Egret flushed from tree (just within Croydon boundary) then at Grange Gardens, Beddington Park (just outside our area) another Kingfisher seen; pair of Teal and at least 4 Little Grebes - some as close as 2 metres. The pond here has some lovely muddy edge habitat. At dusk at Waddon Ponds c.120 Ring-necked Parakeets flocking up then departing W; 3 drake Pochard. (AJP)
