  • 26th - South Norwood Country Park: 08.00 - 10.30. 37 species including: 1 swift, 2 coal tit, willow warbler, chiff chaff, GC Grebe (but no sighting of little grebes), great spotted woodpecker, Hobby flying from lake toward the stream, spotted flycatcher near mound, common whitethroat and lesser whitethroat, blackcap, sparrowhawk.   • 26th - Farthing Downs: Probable 1st winter common redstart seen briefly before flying off and not relocated in spite of 30 minute search. V frustrating. Linnets and goldfinches in good numbers, several chiffchaffs, 2 sparrowhawks, 1 kestrel, 1 buzzard heard calling but not seen, 4 swallows over, nuthatch, chaffinch and greenfinch, 1 green woodpecker.   • 12th - Farthing Downs: flocks of linnet and goldfinch (approx 15 of each species with several juveniles of each obvious), chiffchaff, 1 whitethroat showing but others around and difficult to see, flock of 13 mistle thrush moving through, blackcaps, family of bullfinch - 2 youngsters, chafffinch, greenfinch, green woodpecker.   • 10th - Pittville Gardens, South Norwood (6pm): Fem/imm Kestrel preening in birch tree for at least 10 mins, then flew low NW over rly lines, suggesting very local bird of the year (?) (Gavin Hawgood)
  • 9th - South Croydon: (08:00hrs approx.) 3 juv. Herring Gulls pursuing adult and giving squealing, begging calls over Whitgift School; presumed recently fledged. (AJP)
  • 9th - South Norwood Country Park: 2 Mute Swan, 2 Little Grebe on new nest having rejected thChaffinmeir first brood of 3 young, 2 Great Crested Grebe with two young, Shoveler, flock of 72 Black-headed Gull made a brief visit to the lake (JAH)

  • 4th - Stambourne Woodland Walk, Upper Norwood (am): monthly 1-hour visit produced 18 species, incl Green Woodpecker, Song Thrush, Goldcrest & Nuthatch (Gavin Hawgood)
  • 3rd - Whitehorse Meadow, South Norwood (am): a lowly 17 species seen in over 2 hours birding with 2x Chiffchaffs (contact call) the only highlight (Gavin Hawgood)
